Hi, I created a custom post type,”members,” and I’m getting an error that “adding listing is disabled,” even though front end add is not disabled. I’m also confused about the “categories.” I added a bunch of categories that users can use to search for members, but they all show up on the add listing page. Am I using them wrong?

ThanksJune 6, 2019 at 5:56 am #491172Could you try again? I think it should work now.
June 6, 2019 at 7:09 am #491175Hi there,
Thanks for your reply. I’ve just fixed your Add listing page here https://southaustinpsychotherapygroup.com/add-listing/?listing_type=gd_member and could you give it another try?
June 6, 2019 at 4:32 pm #491298Thank you so much! What did you do to fix it? I’m really struggling with this plugin. I think eventually it can do what I need it to do, but it isn’t intuitive for me at all. Is it possible to schedule a time to do a direct chat with a support person to walk me through some things? I’m finding the documentation limiting for people like me who need really specific instructions on customizing. Alternately, is it possible to pay someone for a few hours of time? My current problems:
1. pages within the web site that include the search terms are showing up in the search results. I don’t want that. I simply want a directory of people (member listings) where each person can select which categories apply to them and others can find them by searching for those categories. I don’t want content from pages that use some of the same words as the member categories to come up in the search results.
2. I’m wondering if I’m using “custom fields” and “categories” incorrectly. I need 7 main categories (if I’m using the right term): population, location, insurance, areas of specialty, therapeutic approach, license, and odds & ends. Within each category, there are between 8-40 sub-categories that members can select which apply to them. For example, under “population”: children, adults, couples, families and under “location”: North Austin, South Austin, Lakeway, etc. So another user can go to the search page and search for all members who see children in south Austin. I thought that by making parent categories and then putting the specific selections within the appropriate parent category it would create dropdown menus for each parent category. Clearly, it doesn’t work that way. Is there a way to do what I’m trying to do or does this plugin not work that way?
3. The same problem with the long lists of categories showing on the “add listing” page is also on the “search” page. How do I get rid of that? And is there a way to get rid of the “attractions, hotels, features,” etc. images at the top of that page?
Thank you!!!!

customization is beyond support. GeoDirectory Expert for hire can be found here: https://geodirectoryexperts.com
Thanks
June 6, 2019 at 7:58 pm #491336Ok, thanks.
Can you tell me if this can be done with this plugin or am I barking up the wrong tree?
June 7, 2019 at 5:43 pm #4916001. You could add categories to the main search bar and then hide the search input with CSS, this would only let users search via categories and location.
2. I would not make locations categories. There is an address input for each listing, this will allow users to filter by location.
For categories i would make this exclusively the type of therapies, and keep things like “insurance” to a custom field, maybe that could be a checkbox, “accepts insurance?” this can then be added as an advanced search option in the search bar.
3. You can simply delete the dummy categories under places> Place Categories.
If you do what i suggest in #2 you should not have a huge list. The category selector on the add listing page can be filtered by starting to type the name.
Thanks,
Stiofan
