Thank you
August 14, 2015 at 8:16 pm #49438Your recaptcha add on doesn’t stop spam comments elsewhere on the site and in principle I hate recaptchas. Mainly because I never seem able to do them. Do you know why it is breaking registration? Maybe I can ask WP Spam Shield to look into it. Thanks
August 14, 2015 at 8:21 pm #49440Hi,
I have no idea how that plugin works.
It is my understanding that we add the re-CAPTCHA to blog posts too and in case I’m wrong, you could always add another re-CAPTCHA plugin using the same API Keys.
Just FYI, with the new re-CAPTCHA API, there is nothing to resolve. You are just asked to click on a checkbox…
See iamge attached.
August 14, 2015 at 8:28 pm #49444Thanks. I just looked into WP SPam Shield support to see if they had anything to say about this.
The other time something similar came up was when a plugin modified the WP Login/registration system – see comment below.
I was wondering whether wpgeodirectory also modified the core WP Login/Registration system as well?
Also it would be great if you could have a sticky post somewhere with known conflicts. Thanks
Just posting a follow up here in case anyone else has a similar problem. This situation ended up being caused by a plugin conflict, and not a flaw in WP-SpamShield.
The affiliate plugin is using and modifying the WordPress login/registration system, and they are doing it in a way that bypasses some of the functionality and registration hooks, which is what’s causing the problem.
The way things are implemented in the other plugin, there’s nothing that can be done in WP-SpamShield to bridge the gap.

August 15, 2015 at 5:35 am #49517My pleasure. But what I want to know is whether you are modifying the core wordpress login/registration? If you are not then I will raise this as a ticket with WP Spamshield. If you are I would ask you to add it in as a feature request somewhere down the line to find another way to do it as I believe hacking core WordPress functionality tends not to be a great idea.
August 15, 2015 at 5:45 pm #49567“The affiliate plugin is using and modifying the WordPress login/registration”.
I believe they refer to a 3rd aprty plugin, not GeoDirectory?
August 15, 2015 at 6:56 pm #49581Yes they are. The point I am making is that the WP Spam Shield plugin which I think is exceptional at stopping spam is not working with some reason. Before I raise a support ticket with them to find out why I want to know whether or not geodireectory plugin modifies the core wordpress login/registration system as well?
If it does then I cannot expect WP SPam Shield to look at the bug, if it doesn’t then I can.
Does that clarify my question?
August 17, 2015 at 4:57 pm #49752GeoDirectory uses a custom registration form using wp reguilar functions. In any case I don’t think WP Spam Shield can work with GD registration form unless they tweak it to do so.
Thank you
August 17, 2015 at 4:59 pm #49754As you can see from their description page. For 3rd party plugins they had to add specific support:
Supports: Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms, Ninja Forms, JetPack Contact Forms & Comments, BuddyPress, bbPress, WooCommerce, s2Member, WP-Members, Mailchimp, Fast Secure Contact Form, Formidable Forms, almost all WordPress forms, and almost all WordPress registration forms. It would be great if they decided to add support for GeoDirectory too.
Thanks
