Hello,
I use v2. on one page only core.
have searched the forum and the documentation for a long time, unfortunately can’t find an answer. Maybe because English is not my native language and I can’t find the right search keyword.
Therefore sorry, if it is already answered somewhere.
Could not find it here as well.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-shortcodes/#ctp-catsI only want to show selected categories in the locations. Can i include or exclude categories
[gd_categories]
so e.g. with
[gd_listings category=”20″ post_limit=10 add_location_filter=’1′]
Thank you for your message in advance,
Best regards – Markus
August 6, 2019 at 6:49 am #501528It is not possible to select specific categories.
I have made a note of your idea and the developers will consider it for a future version.
August 6, 2019 at 7:07 am #501531thank you 4 the quick response, Alex
I ve a mebership for one site.
When i unse cpt plug in there i could organise different categories for different custom poste types – am i right?Best regards, Markus
August 6, 2019 at 7:54 am #501538Hi Mark,
if by CPT plugin you mean “GeoDirectory Custom Post Types” addon.
then yes, for each CPT you get separate taxonomy, where you can organise different categories for different custom post types. Thanks
August 6, 2019 at 10:47 am #501570Yes, you can set different categories for each CPT.
GD Listings can have category filters applied, use the shortcode builder to do that.
However, that feature is not yet available for GD Categories shortcode/element

August 8, 2019 at 10:54 am #501989Thank you Naveen Giri and Alex,
@alex
GD Listings can have category filters applied, use the shortcode builder to do that.I ve already experimented with GD listings on a test WP site.
Thanks for the tip.But it does not look as nice as the categorY Icon SIte wich ist best for navigation throug catehories. Also GD CPT Listings is interesting for many CPTs.
Of course it would be fantastic to be able to list the Categories by CPTs. The overview with the category icons is simply the clearest. ISt therefore an elementary feature, which I would like to use very much.
However, that feature is not yet available for GD Categories shortcode/element
Is there a plan whether this filter will be added to [gd_categories] at some point?
With 10 CPTs with 6 to 12 categories each, [gd_categories] is otherwise unusable and seems chaotic. Also the pull down of the categories on the map becomes endlessly long,Example of my test site in ScreenShot. And there are only 6 CPTs with a few categories.
An info whether this is really planned and when would probably be very nice.
Or a tip on how I would do it.
I know, you don’t make any adjustments, but maybe there is a way that I as a GeoDir beginner don’t come, but you as professionals do.Have a nice day – best regards, Markus

August 12, 2019 at 3:11 pm #502707hi Mark,
there is already a filter to show categories of cpt.
check the screensort.Let me know if i miss something?
thanks
August 13, 2019 at 10:35 am #502833HiNaveen Giri,
yes, i know. With Shortcode: [gd_cpt_categories] i can produce special Lists.
But i cant do that with the [gd_categories]Alex answered:
It is not possible to select specific categories.I have made a note of your idea and the developers will consider it for a future version.
I wanted to know, if its planned to make a filter to [gd_categories] and when it is planned. As i asked in my thread. What u tell me is altready answered above. I think its an important feature becaus the view of the category icons is best to choose. As i wrote already – it looks ugly, when using 30 CPTs and each has 20 categories. U get 600 categoriey icons shown at the location page.
Please read the whole thread – ty.
Kind regards – MarkusAugust 13, 2019 at 5:24 pm #502914Hi Mark, seems valid point.
we have created task for it. you can check progress here

August 20, 2019 at 11:12 am #503916Hello again,
1. wanted to ask if there are any news to display selected CPT categories.
2. the display of the categories is sorted by the creation date. I haven’t found an option to set a sort order. Neither individually, nor at least alphabetically.
It seems that the order is determined by the creation date. With the ID probably. This leads to e.g. hotels, holiday flats, holiday homes, camping sites, hostels, private rentals etc. being displayed in different places. Depending on when the category was created.
Is there a way to sort the IDs of the categories for display?
Best regards, Markus

August 20, 2019 at 11:56 am #503918You will need a 3rd party plugin to do that. Try a search: https://www.google.com/search?q=wordpress+taxonomy+sort+order&oq=wordpress+taxonomy+sort+order
August 20, 2019 at 3:20 pm #503973Hello again,
Thanks, Alex. I have tried some taxonomie PluIns. They work with normal wordpress categories. Apparently, but not with gd categories.
For testing I have 3 CPTs
Screenshot 2019-08-19-post-types.jpgThe categories in each CPT are now sorted with the Txaonomie PlugIns. Screenshot 2019-08-19-cpt-order-ok.jpg
But as a result, I get that.
Screen Shot: 2019-08-19-category-icons 3-cpts.jpgOnly the second CPT is sorted correctly. Because it is in the order it was created. I’ve added numbers to all of them to make it easier to recognize for you.
It seems that gd manages the sorting of the display itself. No PlugIn i tried did effect the order oft categories shown. Could that be?
And again to my filter question gd_categories. I only have 3 CPTs on the test page here. Final I have 12 -15 and each has about 15 categories. That’s about 200 to 300 categories at least. So you can’t use the location category display. Is there news, if a filter is installed to show only desired CPT categories? Or at least a possibility to give the CPTs a title above it, so that it becomes more structured. So it is chaos. Noone can recognise start and end of a cpt
At the map below, there is the filter. Here I can choose which cpt categories I want to display.
Sorry, this is a long text. But I work day and night on this project and that’s a hurdle that stops me completely.
Best regards, markus

August 20, 2019 at 3:32 pm #503979Sorry Alex, forgot to send the ScreenShot with the cctp Filter which exists in gd_maps.
2019-08-19-map-filter-to-choose-for cpts.jpg
Just the gd_category is missing that.
so long – markusAugust 20, 2019 at 3:40 pm #503985No, GD doesn’t provide a filter. Let me flag your topic for my team member, he might have a suggestion about a plugin to use for ordering.
Oh wait, maybe this one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/taxonomy-terms-order/
August 21, 2019 at 7:48 pm #504218Hi, Alex,
thank you for your taxonomy link. Unfortunately the PlugIn doesn’t work as well as all other plugins. I think I’ve tested all taxonomy plugins that exist the last 2 days. It doesn’t work with any of them with the gd categories. With the WP Post Categories it works fine, with all PlugIns.
They work with GD in the BackEnd. ScreenShot: sort-back-end.jpg
I can move and arrange the GD categories of a CPT there. But it has no effect on the display and sorting of categories in the frontend. See ScreenShot Videos-map-categories-01.jpg
The map categories are sorted alphabetically by default. There seems to be a filter. Why isn’t at least that the case, also with the categories? It would be so important, because otherwise gd_categories is not useful. And it is one of the most important elements of GD for the display for the user.
It seems that GD uses its own order for the categories, as already written several times. I have spent days, even weeks to solve the problem and slowly get tired. Maybe you can ask a developer.
2. unfortunately i haven’t got a real answer to my other problem with gd_categories yet. I’ve probably written 10 posts about it in the meantime and documented them with ScreenShots.
In the category display the CPTs are not delimited, have no title and are notcludable or includable. See screenshot cpts – categories-02.jpg
Here are 3 CPTs (Tourism, Health and Videos) listed, each with a few categories. The CPTs are not separated from each other and have no title. And the sorting is pure chaos – in contrast to the map. There, everything is fine. I have provided the categories with numbers 1,2,3 etc, so that you can better understand what is meant.
I think you have programmed the best directories there are. I have a big project in front of me and we discover new power every day. But if I can’t show the results to my visitors properly, it will be pointless.
Please write to me if a filter for gd_categories is planned and if so, by when it will probably be implemented. I’ve already asked for this at least 4 times and didn’t get a real answer.
I know, support is an exhausting job, I did it for some years. So i thank you a lot for your work. But please an answer to my 2 questions. I have been fighting with it for 4 weeks now in many 100 man-hours. Thank you.
