Hi,
In location manager i have set one city as default. (i am using one country: India; and region and city are set to selected locations). Currently, i will be operating in one city then will roll out to other cities (selected) also, hence i am making my site ready to rollout also though initially will be in one city.
How can i set location switcher to take the default city set in LM as ‘default’ instead of LS default setting being ‘ Change Location”?
I do need to use LM even with one city, because i need the ‘near me” functionality which is a part of LM, even on day one.
thanks, Vivek
September 21, 2019 at 1:50 pm #509529You can turn off the Location Manager plugin until you start adding listings in other locations.
“Near me” works direct from the search bar too.
ThanksSeptember 22, 2019 at 11:51 am #509606Thanks, Guust.
Even with LM on, is there a way to set the Location Switcher to the default city in LM anyway, as i expect majority of my users to be from the default city, so rather than have ALL users to change location, i can have only the users in other cities to do that?
thanks,
VivekSeptember 22, 2019 at 12:15 pm #509609If you only have listings in the default location, then no-one ever needs to switch location.
I am not sure I am understanding the problem you think you have …September 22, 2019 at 12:28 pm #509610Thanks, Guust,
So initially I will be in one city, Pune, which is set as default city.
In a month or so I will extend to 3-4 other cities, however, I expect my traffic to be 60% from Pune, and 40% from other cities combined, hence i wanted to know if it is feasible to set Pune as default city in LS, rather than “Change Location” so at least 60% of the vistors are not forced to set location to browse listings in their city.thanks,
VivekSeptember 22, 2019 at 2:52 pm #509614I understand what you are asking. But visitors never need to set any location to browse or search listings. So nobody is forced to set any location, it’s not necessary.
ThanksSeptember 23, 2019 at 10:54 am #509707Hi Guust, yes i agree that a visitor is not forced and can browse or search even with “change location” ie no location selected, but then they see the CPT archives (ie for all locations).
So if i have 100 lisitngs in my default city and 50 each in 2 other cities, then browsing the CPT archives will show all 200 listings, half of which are irrelevant to the 80% of the traffic, which is coming from the default city.
So, if the location switcher sets to Pune (default) then only the 100 relevent listings are shown in the CPT+location archive page, and only 20% of the visitors (from other cities) need to change location to filter relevant listings.
Do please let me know if i am missing something here?
thanks very much
vivekwhereas if i can
September 23, 2019 at 10:55 am #509708Sorry -pls read 60% instd of 80% in my above example
September 23, 2019 at 11:23 am #509712Earlier you wrote “Currently, i will be operating in one city” and now you write “I have 100 listings in my default city and 50 each in 2 other cities”, so I am a bit confused.
In that case you will need the Location Manager, and the first option is always “My location”, so if users only want to see what is near them, then they can use that.
There is no option to set any location as a default if you have listings in more than one location. Thanks
September 23, 2019 at 11:33 am #509715Understood, Guust – probably you missed that i did also mention above “So initially I will be in one city, Pune, which is set as default city.
In a month or so I will extend to 3-4 other cities, however, I expect my traffic to be 60% from Pune, and 40% from other cities combined, ”Hence i was asking about the situation when i move into other cities also in a month or so.
Since there is a default city being set in the location manager anyway (i understand its for add listing), it would be nice if there is an option to set location switcher also to default. Yes, ‘My location’ is the first option in LS, but that requires the users to go change it in LS, which i was trying to avoid.
thanks, Vivek
