I’ve installed share location plugin, but i can’t see any difference, don’t geolocate me.
Only shows “enter your location”, like the old system
On the old version, i work with an external plugin, and locate me, whitout any interaction, automatically.June 19, 2014 at 11:22 pm #5167This reply has been marked as private.June 19, 2014 at 11:40 pm #5168Julian, you have your WP settings as a subfolder [ mydomain.com/sub ] but all your links go to a subdomain [ sub.mydomain.com ].
Can you sort that out first. Decide whether you want a subdomain or a folder installation, make sure it is set up correctly in your hosting panel, and then tell WP Settings what you decided.
You might want to refresh permalinks after that by saving WP permalinks again.June 20, 2014 at 12:42 am #5183Thanks Guust, yes, its true, but i made a new installation on a new domain, but the problem, its the same, no subfolders this time.
This is the new site:nothing geolocte me.
June 20, 2014 at 5:59 am #5216You got multi-locations enabled?
You only seem to have listings in one location?
Have you set up an admin with the same login details?June 20, 2014 at 6:56 am #5220This reply has been marked as private.June 20, 2014 at 1:09 pm #5263Child theme was not activated.
You had no menus created.
WP permalinks have to be set to “postname”.
The Geolocator will take you to the town that is in the database and that is closest to you.Let me know if there is anything else.
June 20, 2014 at 4:55 pm #5302Maybe I’m still not clear on how to make the geolocation feature work.
I have all the plugins updated and the add-ons activated.
I’m not using the child theme, I’m using Enfold.
What do I need to do to make it automatically recognize the visitors approx. location and drop them to the closest places on the map?
June 20, 2014 at 5:40 pm #5309Try another browser and see if it works. I use Chrome and I didn’t see it at first so I tried it with IE and it worked.
I noticed this is a common issue and it seems that the problem is the lack of immediate visual effect when the addon is installed.
I guess the developers need to put some type of a unique alert or notice so directory owners will immediately see if geolocation works or not the first time it’s activated.
June 20, 2014 at 6:57 pm #5315Ok, now I’m getting different issues… It prompts me to use the current location, and once I do it defaults to a location that I’ve never heard of and one that is not in the system.
On Chrome it simply keeps reloading over and over again. In safari it loads that location, but it’s still just a national map of the country. I have locations in the state that I’m currently located in, and it’s not zooming in on Michigan.
What do I need to do to get this shored up?
Everything is updated, all add-ons running correctly. Enfold theme.
June 20, 2014 at 7:06 pm #5316Chrome is not reloading now, and by changing the URLs to show “full” I can see that it’s getting approx the right location, but it still doesn’t zoom in to the state level. It just shows the national map… what am I missing?
Thanks!
June 20, 2014 at 9:19 pm #5329I’m aso having problems with geolocation. I’m currently at a location, but it is taking me to another! on my laptop and iphone with GPS activated
June 21, 2014 at 4:33 am #5364Firstly, I’ll try to explain what I wrote earlier: “The Geolocator will take you to the town that is in the database and that is closest to you”.
Scenario:
I’ll use the US since we are all vaguely familiar with that country.
Assume we have only 2 listings: an place in New York and an event in Los Angeles.
If I am in Hawaii and visit the site with Geolocator switched on, the system will:
1. recognise I am in Hawaii
2. go to the database and find the closest place to Hawaii: that is Los Angeles
3. So the website will go to the page for Los Angeles and show the event listing, and the Location Manager indicator in your menu will show you are in Los Angeles.@ julian
Your geolocation is working fine. I am in Australia and your website thinks Tarragona is closest to me.
Have a look at the theme of your site (appearance > themes). It was set to GDF yesterday, so I changed it to GDF child.@manilaboy
Your website should ask whether you want to share your location with the site. It will ask this always on the first visit, unless you have accepted “always”. If you say yes, the site would go to the closest location in the database.@thewzrd
Can you open your own topic and give us your WP admin details?@leandrorosa
Does it take you to the closest location in the database? It cannot take you anywhere that is not in the database.June 21, 2014 at 9:21 am #5410Ok Guust, I understood wrongly, that plugin, when show you a map, showing you the route from your position to the destination, but that is not its function. I will keep using my system, you must manually enter the address in the post, but does its job.Thanks.
