I almost put this in as a bug, but am not sure it qualifies – though it is definitely bugging me!
On the add listing pages at the bottom where it is possible to add images, the description is in two parts:
“Add Images : (You can upload more than one images to create image gallery on detail page)
(You can upload 1 image with this package)”The first bracketed part remains the same no matter how many images can be uploaded, while the second changes depending how many can be uploaded with each package. This gives a misleading impression for all packages where only one image is allowed – i.e, told first that more than one image can be uploaded, then immediately told that only one possible! (see above).
Would it be possible in your next release to either delete the first bracketed part or replace it with something that doesn’t cause confusion? E.g.: “(Images are displayed on the listing detail page as well as on the map pop-up boxes)”
You might reply that I can change this in a language translation file – fair enough, but I haven’t yet grappled with that (and some users won’t want to) – also, it is sort of a bug in that it routinely presents confused and contradictory information to those submitting listings.
What do you think?
December 9, 2015 at 5:41 pm #63071Hi,
I think it really gets confusing only if you have a package that allows 1 image.
In that case changing it to :
(Depending on the price selected you can upload 1 or more images to create the image gallery on the detail page)
This can be changed via translation file. We would change it for all only if many like you asked to change this.
Thanks
December 9, 2015 at 5:57 pm #63079Hi Paolo,
yes, unfortunately a significant number of my packages allow just 1 image – and every time someone will try to add a listing then they will be confused by this, leading to the possibility of one or more of: a) unnecessary work for me in responding to queries about this confusion; b) possible complaints that ‘when I added my listing it said that I could add more photos on a detail gallery – but I can’t – that’s what I paid for’! Either way, not good things for a stat-up business to have to deal with (unneccessarily).
I’m not sure why you are happy to allow a ‘buggy-out-of-the-box’ experience like this – confusion for those adding listings and hassle for directory administrators – asking that everyone learn how to manipulate translation files instead of making a simple fix by removing the first bracketed clause of the description (which as well as being redundant is grammatically incorrect!) 🙁
December 9, 2015 at 6:12 pm #63085Because altering translation files is super simple and for 1 string it takes literally 3 seconds (once you know how to do it), while changing this would require more time and will make it disappear for all.
Even for those who are using that description and changed it via translation file to something that suits their website 100%.
For example all non-english users who had to translate it.
Basically to make 1 happy, we risk to break the work of thousands…
Thank you
December 9, 2015 at 6:42 pm #63097I think it is not quite right that it would make just one person happy – it would surely be welcome by any of your plugin users who are not happy with getting too far under the bonnet (hood?) of wordpress but who might like to have a package with one photo only.
Anyway, I’ll have to get to grips with translation files sooner rather than later then.
Thanks
