I’ve just gone back in to continue adding listings, and discovered that the listings already in are returning a 404 again as they were before. If you look at the temporary page we set up as a GD homepage (www.carsuk.net/motoring-directory) and click on any of the listings you can see.

I agree – it seems to be working again. But, just as the main plugin turned itself off and wouldn’t reactivate, it was back on again this morning and so we reactivated the other plugins.
I’m loathe to change the permalinks in case they affect the rest of the site – 20,000 pages! Is it necessary?
Sorry to have asked for help on something which appears to have ‘fixed’ itself.
