Thanks. I think it would be better if this could be added to the UI, like under the General tab, but otherwise at least this helps.
Cheers,
BrianThanks.
Just to clarify, #2 isn’t actually fixed.
I uploaded the new file mentioned (page 1 from the other post)…while it may have addressed some of the issues, there still appears to be an issue where country is being pulled into the URLs even when only the city should.
It however only seems to appear, as far as I can tell, from links created from the “GD > Popular Post Category” widget. Not sure, this may also be a larger GD issue and not limited to just Enfold.
Cheers,
BrianApplied the fix, but still seeing the issue, specifically from the “GD > Popular Post Category” widget.
And here are screengrabs showing examples of #1 and #3.
Just getting back into here and glad to see the Enfold pack was released. Still playing with everything in general and now this, but some immediate things I have come across:
- Sidebar widget for “Listing Slider” appears to have broken…gets very long with no image visible, and thumbnails appear stacked below it
- URLs are now including country even though I’ve specifically selected just city in slug…at least I don’t recall them being in there before adding plugin. Also, not consistent in appearance (drops out on detail page) and clicking on country, state or city from breadcrumb the breadcrumbs (example.com/places/united-states/illinois/chicago/) all lead to 404 page.
- Pinpoint link overlaps the map icons on the listings
Cheers,
BrianExcellent, cheers mate.
Any follow up/feedback on this?
cheers
Paolo,
Great to see the team being responsive and, pardon the cliche, thinking outside the box.
On a parallel note, any time frame estimates for when shortcodes will be released? While this may not be a 100% solution, I would think that if shortcodes were available for everything, that would make GD more “theme agnostic” and able to be integrated more, leaving mostly some CSS/design tweaks for the user to come up with.
At the very least, this might buy some time for the team, especially with John’s assistance, to pull together tighter integration without fully delaying anyone from moving forward with the theme of their choice.
Cheers,
Brianmanilaboy,
The value in those kinds of links have been extremely downgraded by the search engines, Google in particular. This is even more so if there isn’t a lot of topical, contextual connection between the sites…from the search engine’s point of view, “Is there any good reason why this site would be linking to another site? Is this link natural or “coerced in some way?”
At best, there may be some value, or at least no harm, but there may even be times when these links could hurt your site. If the anchor text is the site or business name, it may be safer than plugging in keyword anchor text.”
Unfortunately, the SEO risk here is probably greater than the potential payoff. The safest approach here may be to have the links for humans as a marketing vehicle, but nofollow the links.
cheers
+1
Yes, please, and I hope eventually through shortcodes as well. Thanks Paolo, I’ll take a look at that.
cheers
July 2, 2014 at 12:46 pm in reply to: Which file has geodir-wrapper and/or where are developer docs? #7197purpleedge, that’s what is cool about the “Widget Area” feature in Enfold. It does take creating a custom widget, which is easy and then dragging the specified widget into it, but all relatively painless. Some things don’t necessarily display ideally and true shortcodes are the end goal.
In testing, I created custom widgets for the map, locations, and popular posts, dragging each of those into their own named widgets. From there, I created a new page and used the Advanced Editor to construct a new page layout: 1/2 text block & 1/2 homepage map widget, color block 1/1 icon box, 3/4 popular posts/listings widget (had to go with list view as the grids didn’t work as well) & 1/4 locations widget.
That was all just playing around and it looks like the Widget Area can be pulled up from the Enfold shortcode wand.
But yes, really need GD shortcodes that allow for more configuration for each instance to really get control over look and feel.
cheers
@marco7 thanks, good to know. Another “ideal” to be built in and avoid relying on another plugin, but always good to have alternatives as well or an interim solution.
July 2, 2014 at 3:41 am in reply to: Which file has geodir-wrapper and/or where are developer docs? #7108Okay, so in playing around (AMR still an awesome plugin to add to the toolbox) I discovered that Enfold can do same/similar by creating a custom widget, dropping in the specific GD widget and configuring it if necessary, and then using the Advanced Editor or the Shortcode wand to pull in a “Widget Area.” Even easier once you’ve created the custom widgets since they show up in the Widget Area dropdown.
Still a bit of a patch until official shortcodes come, but certain bridges the gap until then.
July 2, 2014 at 2:59 am in reply to: Which file has geodir-wrapper and/or where are developer docs? #7097Wow! Thanks for the AMR shortcode any widget tip. That’s an amazing bit of kit. Hopefully once the shortcodes are released it won’t be necessarily….would prefer to run with as few add-ons as possible, but it may be a great alternative and for now lets me experiment with some potential layouts within Enfold.
cheers
+1 to both hide if empty (especially if that could also be a toggled option) and rearrange.
I’d also like to be able to not have the content be tabbed at all and hoping that will be easily doable once shortcodes are released.
