Ok, I enabled Gzip on these two test sites:
http://www.whocaniget.com
http://www.thingstodoinnc.comthey’re loading faster but still very poorly.
whocaniget.com is mobile 46 and desktop 77 with google speed test. This site barely has anything on it, the server is vps, wp super cache enabled, it’s wordpress theme 2019.
thingstodoinnc.com is mobile 16 and desktop 58. this site is using supreme theme, wp super cache, vps server, barely anything on the site.
also, cache didn’t appear to help at all when I tested speed before and after cache.
I’m thinking these sites should load significantly faster when they are bare bone with only essential GD plugins and virtually no listings.
All this makes me worry about my main site and the future design of these sites. Originally I had plans to showcase certain categories, listings, and events on the home page. But, now I’m trying to imagine a more minimalist way to achieve the fastest load time possible.
Do you have any more suggestions? Thanks again!
Thanks for looking into it Paolo. I’m excited to try your suggestion. I think the google speed tool is important since google is so significant, do you think differently? Please share if you do. Thanks again!
I just did another test. This time i used wordpress theme 2019, wp super caching and GD plugins only. Speed test went back down to what it was before caching with Divi at 49 desktop and 8 mobile.
The site with GD V2 I’m talking about is WhoCanIGet.com and ThingsToDoInNC.com. Neither really has any content, nothing significant anyways. They’re just tests…
VeganLinked.com is on V1 with actually a lot of content and it’s horribly slow. I’ll be upgrading it soon.
I’m using no plugins accept GD and merely a few, as simple as it gets test listings on a virtual private server. Is it my server? Does GD have a server they can suggest that will make their product shine? Because right now it’s not shinning at all on my VPS.
I just did a sort of experiment. I ran 3 speed tests
1. with just a wordress theme and no plugins scored in the green at 98
2. then speed test on a wordpress installation with Divi theme and no plugins scored in the orange at 80
3. then a speed test with with GD plugins and a divi theme and scored in the red at 48. Mobile is at a tragic 8.
4. then I did a speed test with the GD plugins and wp super cache on the same site as 3 and I got an increase to 50. Mobile went to 9.The VPS seems fine with WP until I get the GD plugins installed. These speed ratings are horrible. Imagine how bad it will get with content. Please help.
These are speed test for a large, image heavy site that hasn’t been optimized at all, and isn’t using GD plugins, on the same VPS
Some more screen shots of speed results
Thanks Guust, do you think it’s better/cleaner to start a new site?
Oh, cool. Thanks! I guess I wait to make that change, any news on when you guys think V2 will be solid for the transition?
I could use a third party plugin like Yoast SEO but I’m trying to limit the amount of 3rd party stuff…
Oh, that makes sense 🙂 I’ll go ahead and get that then. I wonder, is there any reason then to use the GD recaptcha then or should I just uninstall it?
