I think the mall example would be a fantastic demonstration of this. The event one is not a good example because GD already shows events like this independent of this specific “linkable to” feature. I just think it would be helpful because it would demonstrate how it can be used in a case where it’s actually used and save us time experimenting.

I’m still not clear on what would happen if the mall would have events and linkable listings. Would they just pile up on the bottom? Are linkable listings displayed in an identical way as the events are?

I would test it, but I’m super swamped building this site, creating content and working hard to hopefully achieve a return on investment sooner than later… I know you guys are busy too though so I understand that you may not have time to create a demo of this feature…

I am realizing more and more the issue here. My directory uses your event listings feature. Events may often be in different cities than place listings. This creates cities in the database. When those events pass there will not be anything in those cities. This will populate the “Popular Locations” with empty cities the more this happens. In my case that could be very soon. It really needs to filter out empty cities especially because of this.

The “Popular Places” also doesn’t seem to “sort”. The way this is designed right now with no search or setting/or default for filtering out empty listings, I imagine this widget will become more harmful than good because showing empty pages/results/locations is a bad thing.

I’ll just use it for now while I’m very aware of what’s on the site. It’s just that the more my site grows the more this feature will have to go it seems.

Sorry, that’s what I meant by search page, the locations page (sometimes GD uses those words interchangeably which makes it easy to confuse). It was/is working on the location page but not on the home because you’re correct, because of beaver builder, lol.

I was trying to compensate for the “Popular Location” not showing locations/cities that are empty of listings and therefore are not a “Popular Location”. And Popular location doesn’t seem to sort cities by the number of listings in that city either, another part of this feature missing and making it not “Popular”. I’m not really sure why it’s called “Popular”. So I wanted to change the title. Then I thought about changing the top half of the home and that’s where things got confusing prompting all of this.

The widget in the backend controls only the location. Beaver controls “The home” “bottom half” via the front end. All correct. But what changes the top half of home? When I tried to change that, like showing in one of the first images, I get an error. I guess those widget sections are not valid or something?

At this point I may or may not change the name. In case I want to, how do I? Is that a language/translation thing?

Also, when i changed the title of “popular places” to “locations” it changed on the search page but not the home page.

I understand, thank you for sharing, I posted it here because it appears like an existing feature bug, not a feature request. Thanks

I completely understand what you’re saying, as for why the “Popular Locations” is showing empty cities.

Combing through cities to discern which are empty and then merging or removing them is not at all practical use of my time though. The goal is to have a huge, successful directory. In which case it would be very time consuming, hard, maybe even impossible, to assess every city. Right now I’m very busy networking and creating content for the site coupled with everything else involved in making the site successful. What you’re suggesting would take away from my time populating and networking the site which is very important. I believe I speak for all directory owners too, not just me… I just don’t see combing through cities very good use of our time to compensate for the plugin’s inability to only show cities with listings. It seems like it the widget could be designed so that it only showed cities with listings. Isn’t that something that the developers can do to improve the widget?

Thanks for your time in explaining the workaround. I hope you understand my perspective and desire. I love how my site is coming along. I am excited to reach a point where the site is so functional that I can spend all my time networking and producing content for it. Thanks again and hope you’re all having a great day!

Thanks for the response but I’m not sure what you’re suggesting. I was expecting to see listings when I go to a city in the “Popular Location” section of the site. But, when I go to Forest City there are no listings. This is misleading and makes the site look broken.

Can someone please make it so the popular location widget only shows locations that at least have one listing/event?

K, thanks, I hate to make it harder on them… they probably don’t even know how, I don’t even know how… I’m sure it’s probably easy, it’s just another thing to have to figure out… I’ll be happy when GDV2 is in production with cancellation in the site!

It did it again, this time on my laptop. So, it did it on my desktop, mobile device, and now laptop. Each time it was a different listing, totally random. This time it was on https://veganlinked.com/services/united-kingdom/west-sussex/east-grinstead/photographer-and-filmmaker/ and I clicked on his image and it didn’t open in lightbox. I was in Google. I had to hit the back arrow on the browser window to get out of the image. I refreshed the page and tried again and it was fine.

My connection is solid too. Just reporting it to you guys… I’m sure it’s hard to repeat the problem because it’s random when it happens to me. I live on this site right now so I use it A LOT…

Actually, I added the Gmap to the details sidebar and it doesn’t have the “map location” option in the sidebar to get directions 🙁 So, I am not sure how to do that either… please let me know how.

Basically, I would like it in the sidebar like this: https://wpgeo.directory/supreme-directory/places/united-states/california/san-francisco/restaurants/tasty-food-inc/

Not in the bottom like this: https://veganlinked.com/food/united-states/north-carolina/horse-shoe/garlik-vegan/

Will someone please let me know if GD team can make this select drop down more mobile friendly? I plan on launching this site in about a week if all goes well. This would be sweet to have resolved (made better) by then.
