    NUMBER 3 FOLLOW UP: MENU

    Alex said:

    1. ou can add a custom menu item to any WordPress menu.

Please, why are you wasting everyone’s time, i already know I can make a menu, I have a menu already made, the question was

1.) can I use GD menu in an elegant themes “Extra theme”?

I ask if I can make the GD menu look like my current one and you say .

You may need to create custom CSS for that

But, you never told me how, if possible, to setup the GD menu in an elegant theme.

I just can’t understand your responses, please watch this, maybe this will help you understand what I am thinking and then maybe you can respond better. Or, better yet, someone else can help me please:

NUMBER ONE FOLLOW UP 3: CHANGING GD DEFAULT PAGES
    Alex, you said

It is not possible to use a builder on the Listing or Location or Search or GD Home page. You can use a builder on the WP Static Front Page if that page is different than the page set for GD Home.

Pages, general pages, can also use a builder and shortcodes.

I can change the location page to use a page I created using Divi Builder and shortcode. https://veganlinked.com/locale/united-states/north-carolina/boiling-springs/
How can I change the lists page to use a page I’ve created using Divi builder and shortcode?

How can I make the location page or page I’ve created to replace it “full width”?

I in fact did create one for the location page using Divi Builder and then changing that in the permalinks. So, you’re telling me I cannot do something that I in fact can do. This is really EXTREMELY DIFFICULT annoying because you kind of avoided it for days causing me to try and find a way to customize the “Lists” pages the way. Because I was able to figure out through trial and error how to do this with the location page.

Finally, after several days you say I can’t do this. So, I thought, maybe this is why the layout doesn’t go full width. But, now I’m again, after trying so many times, going back to the default location page and IT ALSO AS I HAVE ALREADY EXPRESSED has layout issues.

So, why are you telling me I cannot customize the location page as I have in fact done by creating a page called locale? And, how can I fix the layout of the location page to be full width, or more preferably the layout of the locale page I create?

Honestly, I would rather work with someone else. It has been very difficult working with you Alex. It’s like running in circles for days. I need someone that more deeply understands GD and what I am explaining.

    NUMBER THREE: MENU

Earlier (in response to the location switcher not working in mobile view and my wanting to consider using the GD menu instead) you said:

For more about how menus work, please see: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Menu_User_Guide

Obviously I already know how to create a menu. So, the link you shared was of no use to me. I need to know this:

1.) can I use GD menu in an elegant themes “Extra theme”?
2.) can I make it look like the one I have now with the logo on the left, the colors I’m using, and the navigation setup the same and the location switcher on the far left?
3.) if I can, how do I get the GD navigation to take over?

I know I can go to WP/Appearance/Menu and create a menu and select it under “manage locations” as you can see I’ve already done that. But, it’s using Elegant Themes.

In GD/Design/Navigation I have everything setup.

So, how do I turn disable the use of Elegant Themes Menu and enable the use of GD menu so I can resolve the issue with the Location Switcher?

NUMBER TWO FOLLOW UP: HOSTING CACHE PROBLEMS, DO THEY REALLY EXIST?

I am not using Buddy Press. And, I read through that entire support issue, I’m not sure that applies to me at all since that person is doing things I’m not doing. I’ve used GD on Godaddy many times with a lot more than 20 listings and didn’t have problems. So, again, I ask, what “specifically” are the problems I am going to experience? Or what problems are currently there now? And, please, only refer to my site because I’m only using GD and Elegant Themes and the site is, for the most part, setup how I want it. In the future I would like to add the affiliate plugin.

NUMBER ONE FOLLOW UP TEMPLATE PAGES:

It’s very unfortunate that we cannot create a page using Divi Builder and shortcodes in place of the default Lists and Location page. It almost works for the location page. If the GD could make this happen then the plugins would be FANTASTIC and very compatible with one of the most happening, popular and trusted WP themes out there, Divi Builder by elegant themes. You guys should really work on this.

For now, thank you for finally telling me that what I’m trying to do cannot happen. This would have been great to know several days ago when I first started trying and asking. So, now I need to switch “location” in permalinks back to the “Location” page and give up on trying to customize those pages like I really want to. Next thing I’ll need to do is resolve the location switcher. But, I may need to find a hosting solution sooner than later…

NUMBER TWO: CACHE ISSUES, DO THEY REALLY EXIST?

    You said

There are a number of issues we have seen over the years with GoDaddy. We recommend you choose a different host, and that you disable their cache solution.

Choose a known good cache plugin instead, and always disable your cache before you work on design or submit a design related ticket.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/known-issues/#cacheplugins

You say godaddy has known issues, and that link you shared also claims blue host has issues, but NOWHERE DOES IT SAY WHAT THE ISSUES ARE! And, Godaddy is like the biggest host provider on the planet, so if you’re saying these plugins have issues on Godaddy you’re basically saying these plugins have issues so don’t use them, and you don’t even explain how.

Maybe they’re not causing issues anymore? Maybe they’re not causing issues with the specific features I’m using? This is a serious concern because a site is USELESS WITHOUT HOSTING and therefore your plugins are useless. But, if you can explain the problem then I can see if it applies. If it does not apply then I don’t need to worry about it and I haven’t wasted time and and money, something NOBODY WANTS TO WASTE. So, please, take some time to explain yourself to save use all a little time and heartache.

Another link was shared suggesting Cloudwave and offering demos, but the demos you say you don’t maintain which is why the link is dead. So, this does not seem like a very good option at all. Esp. since they don’t have near the customer service and are not at all known whereas the companies Bluehost and Godaddy are VERY well known.

So, I NEED TO KNOW if these plugins will work on Godaddy’s managed wordpress and if not I need an explanation. Otherwise I need to stop wasting my time and money and your time and I need to find a completely different solution to my dream of having a directory. Or we need to find me a better hosting solution.

Also, if I can create the “lists” page and “location” page using the Divi Builder then this may solve two other problems; that being the footer not being blue all the way across and the location switcher not working in mobile view.

NUMBER ONE: USING DIVI BUILDER AND SHORTCODES TO CREATE LISTS PAGES AND LOCATION PAGES

There are two types of pages left on VeganLinked.com that really need attention:

    Location type pages
    https://veganlinked.com/locale/united-states/north-carolina/boiling-springs/

I want to be able to recreate these pages with Divi Builder and GD Shortcode. IS THIS POSSIBLE?

I almost succeeded at creating a new “location” page by creating a page called “locale” using the divi builder, adding GD shortcode inside the modules, and then changing the GD/Permalinks for “location” to the page I created “local”. But, I cannot get the width to go fullwidth inside the box layout (see how https://veganlinked.com/locale/united-states/north-carolina/boiling-springs/ the content is not as wide as https://veganlinked.com/in/united-states/north-carolina/boiling-springs/).

    Lists type pages
    https://veganlinked.com/food/
I have not found a way to create a new “lists” page. The template is not referred to in GD/Permalinks. So, how may I do this?

All week I’ve been trying to figure this out and asking for help by both typing it in this forum, in videos and in photos and it’s really causing this site’s progress to drag over days and soon weeks. Please, help me with these two things. PLEASE!

We have already informed you of Issues with godaddy.

The only thing I can tell that you’ve said is about godaddy is

There are a number of issues we have seen over the years with GoDaddy. We recommend you choose a different host, and that you disable their cache solution.

Before I invest time and money trying to go to an entirely new hosting provider I would like to know “specifically” what the problem is with Godaddy’s Managed WordPress. Right now the site appears to be working fine. Is there something wrong with the site that is caused by godaddy’s caching? or is there something that will later be wrong with the site caused by godaddy’s caching? Please explain because this has not been explained.

Thanks Siofan, using “Elegant Themes” “Divi Builder” I can create a “module” that only shows in mobile view and using shortcode add a GD location tool there, I’ll have figure out the best shortcode for that. The only problem with this goes back to my not being able to create the “List Pages” using “Divi Builder” and shortcode because no one has been able to tell me how to do this for the “Lists” pages. And when I did with the “Location” page by recreating it I haven’t been able to get help with the layout issues no working “fullwidth”. If I could just get these last two pages to work right then I’d be able to compensate for the location switcher not working in the menu in mobile view by adding a mobile view only module with shortcode for a location switcher (if there really is one). But, I’ll have to have control over the layout for of the lists and location to really pull this off.

I really love the way the location switcher looks in the navigation on a computer. I wish it would just work in mobile view. How soon may this feature be resolved?

What happens when you “mark as duplicate”? It may be better to move this conversation over here since it’s now specifically about location switcher

I looked into Cloudways, I’m talking to them now, I’m not sure about this. Really, I’m not having problems with Godaddy. So I’m wondering if I should adhere to the old adage “if it’s not broke don’t fix it”. So, I went back to the page Kor suggested https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/server-requirements/#wp and clicked on the “Demos” that are said to be using Cloudways and the URL is no good. So, I can’t see how well these demos work on it. If you can fix the link or send me to the demos that use cloudways I’d like to see how well they load… Mine seems fine though, right? I understand there may have been a momentary cache issue. Is the issue more of a concern when the site grows? Does it matter that I’m in the US and they’re in Malta? Wouldn’t it be better to use servers near here?

Thanks Kor, I’m going to get on Cloudways tomorrow then! or as soon as possible, that’s next on my big list of things to do! 🙂
