Make sure you have selected a menu to be used for your GeoDirectory links at GD > Design > Navigation
I did this. I have had it main navigation and I just added it to the footer as well where
“Show geodirectory navigation in selected menu locations” option is at the top of the navigation section under design. This reply has been marked as private. This reply has been marked as private.thanks for the prompt response though, you guys are great! 🙂
It may be enough, but to absolutely ensure integrity it isn’t for any site. I think of a couple examples, for one this project, http://www.DealersBest.com we are only allowing one vehicle per dealer location. It’s probably ok though. We just didn’t want a dealer putting in two because that would cripple the mission… But, it’s a very nominal concern… so, we’ll not worry about it for now…
Thanks Guust and Stiofan,
I have actually addressed this before, 7 months ago, and in other ways over a year ago. Here’s where I addressed it 7 months ago: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/search-bug-2/ and if you read through this thread I mention repeatedly how buggy near me feature is. I was told over and over there isn’t a bug, now 7 months later you guys are acknowledging it and fixing… that’s frustrating…
I am sorry for being negative, it’s just frustrating because I have spent several years trying to work something out with geodirectory first as a theme then plugins and just haven’t had success finding a use for geodirectory where it can shine without so many essential issues.
The documentation is incomplete. The videos are as well. Then the functionality isn’t intuitive. I understand things can change making it hard to keep videos current. But, the documentation needs to be more thorough and simple for sure. You guys are soooo close to having this right that I keep coming back to it with something that may work.
Maybe this time we can make it work… I really am just being open and honest and not trying to be negative at all.
awesome, that would be very useful in the documentation.
Now that it is there, it’s not doing anything other than putting a pound sign at the end of the url.
Being that this is “GeoDirectory” it seems the “developers” here would have already smoothed out all the search features. This is about geography hence “Geo” in the name. So, the most important features should be search related. I should be able to easily setup a geodirectory site so that a visitor can search a post type category (e.g. vehicles or restaurants) drilled down to a category (e.g. cars or mexican food) and then see all the cars or mexican places starting with the closest based on my zip code.
The near me function seems to work only in one direction. It works when setting it, but it doesn’t work when deselecting because it is not clearing the result intuitively rendering no results even if there was results.
The near me function does not work within a category either. So, I see everything (all vehicles) within a custom post type near me everytime I use it. But, if the visitor selects the category cars and then selects near me it doesn’t show just cars near me it shows everything near me.
Am I missing something here? because it sure looks like you guys are. I’ve been trying to use geodirectory as a theme and now plugins for YEARS. And, it’s just so close but still yet so far because it’s so buggy.
At LEAST have a way to totally clear the near me button in a way that is easy, like a “clear near me” button or something. It’s an obvious major rule of thumb that a directory should always render results of some sort to the visitor, ESP. IF THERE ARE RESULTS THAT THE LACK OF BEING ABLE TO INTUITIVELY CLEAR NEAR ME ARE HIDING!
Really though, these search features should have been developed better by now. This has been torture with every project I’ve tried my best to use Geodirectory for. I have had people test this in front of me without knowing what my issue is and THEY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE EVERYTIME.
Does you site have an SSL certificate? I think I had this problem before I installed an SSL Certificate on my site. My other site that uses geodirectory without an SSL, I turned near me feature off on …
Ok, independent of Geodirectory, there’s something going on with godaddy right now, there has to be, or wordpress in general. Because I have several sites not using geodirectory that I suddenly can’t change theme or plugins or access certain aspects of the admin. It’s as if I’m not admin when I am….
Nonetheless, a couple of my geodirectory sites have this notice on theme all of the sudden 🙁
Man, I don’t know what happened. I went from having a beautiful site to now I don’t know what. I am admin yet I can’t access editor, add plugin, new theme, or anything like that. The last time I went to this site http://www.DerekMcCoyMusic.com everything was perfect. A few days later, today for some reason it’s like crazy notice on every page, events are not showing, and I can’t change anything!!!!!
This reply has been marked as private.Man, it’s in my other sites using geodirectory also! 🙁
I don’t have a child theme. I haven’t needed one, yet.
Man, that stayed funky for several days after I posted this. I’ve had to do so much to the site since then apparently I’ve inadvertently removed those tags. So now we can’t see the issue…
