Was that “near me” option automatically enabled after you provided permission with the popup?

I’m not seeing the popup on my end. But I am able to select the “near me” checkbox. But because that option is a little hidden, I want the popup to load. I’m just not getting it.

    Hi Jotomas,

I myself recently got a clear understanding on how the GeoLocation function works. I’m happy to do my best, but if any developers read this and I am mistaken, please correct me as needed…

The popup is a way to force the browser to ask the site visitor for location information. If you set the popup to ask for permission, if the visitor accepts, they will then need to confirm that permission from their browser. At this point the widgets(with location enabled) and the location page will be “activated” and show results that are near the website visitor’s shared location.

As it now stands, to see the listings near the visitor the locations page is the default. I do not believe we currently have the ability to set the redirect page to any other page other than the “location” page or the “default location” that you set. As long as the site visitor does not clear their browser cache and cookies, each time they visit your site one of the three options will be prompted according to your settings: No redirection, redirection to the location page(listings nearest to the visitor), or redirection to a default location.

It’s a bit confusing, but once you get a strong grasp on the capabilities it gets easier to work with. 🙂

Have you set your homepage in your “Reading” settings? It should be set to GD Home or something similar to that. Look into your current “Pages” listing for the correct name…

I don’t think auto location detection is possible right now. But if you don’t want them to be redirected, just select the “No Redirection” option.

Thank you for your response. My site is HTTPS, and I realize that part of this is currently in place. But users are redirected to a generic template(the location page). What I am looking for is a site owner setting to control where users are redirected to based on their location.

For example, if someone is viewing your page from an area where food trucks are very popular, the site owner might want to direct them to a page that showcases food trucks. If they are in an area with major concert venues, that might be the highlight. I’m was just hoping for a bit more flexibility with that.

The way my site is currently setup, I have 6 area pages, ideally I would like to be able to automatically direct my visitors to one of the 6 pages, that I have created, based on their location.

Sorry, I just realized that I got completely off topic…in regards to the location changer, being able to limit what areas you want visible to users would be helpful instead of an ajax that loads all locations. It may not slow down the site like you mentioned, but in my opinion in negatively affects the user experience when you need to wait for locations to load.

Anyway, besides all my grumbling, you guys have created a really solid system and your support is truly the best and most consistent I have seen with any plugin. Thank you.

Auto detection would be ideal once geo-location is permissible by the website visitor with redirection options that could be set by the site-owner.

Alos, I still haven’t seen the “Allow location” popup that should be triggered from geodirectory.

I am currently looking into other plugins to enable auto redirection based on visitor IP/location. I think this function would be extremely beneficial to this plugin. Location is a huge part of any directory site, location specific to it’s user, and any aspects of their website experience is key.

Thank you, but the location changer just doesn’t work the way I would like. 🙁

Thank you. Since I have a lot of locations set up I had read that it will slow down the page. That’s why I haven’t included it.
