I know we are to use a third party plugin for this and I seem to remember somebody posting the instructions on how to do this with Ninja Forms. Is there a link to those instructions somewhere?
Update! The how to is here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/geodirectory-v2-ninja-forms/

    I am a lawyer.

For me critical is: transferable, sub-licensable, modify etc.

This is a non-exclusive transfer of copyright. You still retain the original copyright over your photos. It just gives Facebook the right to use them if they so choose. So pulling them back to your site is not an issue if you are the copyright holder. At the end of the day, this is a convenience function for the business owner, nothing more and nothing less. As long as you are not copying over any of Facebook’s copyright material (like FB user comments and ratings for example) you would be fine.

But it is always best to consult your local lawyer and follow the course of action they recommend as my comment does not constitute legal advice, or not use the function at all and tell your clients to fill in their listing details manually.

Forgive me if I am wrong but I believe the whole point of this plugin is to allow business owners to use the content on their Facebook page to easily populate their listing on a GD page with both publicly available information (URL, address, etc.) as well as copyrighted information such as pictures of their establishment (which again the copyright belongs to them). For that I believe legally they are fine.

If a GD site owner is using this to scrape Facebook, Yelp or TripAdvisor then that is definitely prohibited.

Currently my directory at Motorsport Prospects only uses the category and listing name (https://www.motorsportprospects.com/teams/crosslink-kiwi-motorsport/). For what I need that is fine. This was very easy to accomplish with V1. Do I have the option to do this with V2?

Ironically enough, I think my site would fall under the “substantial, independent value and features beyond the Google products or services” proviso but the way Google is changing their whole set-up is extremely off-putting to me. Definitely merits a blog posting.

In some ways this could be a good thing because it will force directory owners to not just try and clone Google (or Yelp for that matter). You will probably get less requests on how to scrape Yelp and Google for data.

I will stick with OSM for the time being but following so soon after Facebook’s draconian changes it really reinforces the point to (a) offer something different to your users and (b) try not to rely too much on a private company’s API.

    My 2 cents.

Just saw this. Not sure if you may want to look into it but it may be an alternative.

Definitely not 100% definitive but a good omen. Google have been very murky these days with what they are allowing and not with their various services. Keep pushing for something definitive from a senior management or legal rep from Google and keep supporting and developing the OSM option as we have seen that companies like Google and Facebook can change direction at a drop of the hat.

Hi Stiofan. True enough. I had been thinking about this and most probably people tend to share via social media over email anyhow. Good call.

Agreed. This puts the user in control of whether they want to see the communication or not.

In addition I would make the “Send to Friend” feature an option in the GD Details Setting page. “Enable Send to Friend Yes/No?” If the setting is set to “Yes” then give the option “Make Send to Friend available only to registered users?” so that the feature is not visible to non-registered users if set.

The GDPR is about having control of your data. Your suggestion does that for the user and for those site owners who want to remove all risk and doubt, they don’t have to enable the feature at all which gives them that control.

In my opinion this is much better than just completely removing the feature from GD.
