Ok, thanks for the feedback.
Ok, I have found more about what is going on with this. I think I may have had a problem with the page caching, so the changes were happening, but just didn’t appear to on the page.
With Yoast SEO installed I can use the %%location%% variable to at least customize the meta name=”description” field a little bit for Place Category for cities and neighborhoods, but really this limited level of customization isn’t going to work well in the Google search results. There needs to be full customization of the field that becomes the meta name=”description” for Place Category for both cities and neighborhoods.
The problem of not being able to change the Category + Location Top Description (what appears at the top of the output page) at a city and neighborhood level still remains.
You are correct, the shortcodes don’t work there. I have been trying to remove them and put other text there. I believe the variable %location% will work there, but I can’t save the changes.
Thanks for your help.
I think it is the same section we are talking about. The attached file it is the section where the content is “[gd_current_location_name] attractions including all the main highlights in [gd_current_location_name].
[gd_cpt_categories post_type=gd_places hide_icon=true hide_empty=true]”
I can delete it, change it and save it, but it doesn’t change. I don’t know if there is a problem with that particular record or some other problem.

The canconical code is being correctly generated by GeoDirectory.

I suppose the question is why is Google either not seeing it or ignoring it?
I will try and ask this question over in the Google support forums, but I don’t hold out much hope of obtaining a useful response.
Tia I will let Paolo help you first.
If you still want some help after that, then let me know.
I recommend you install the “404 Error Logger” plugin as you will be able to see the problems as they are occurring. It can take weeks for them to show up in Google Search Console.
Did you import the data or enter it on the site?
places/ireland/sligo-1/sligo-1/
These sorts of errors can occur if the neighborhood was duplicated and then changed. Are you using the Yoast SEO Plugin?

Thanks.
I could find all the other change logs, but not for this one.
It’s ok I have cause you guys enough trouble.
I was going nuts over this a few weeks ago. I thought it was me, not a bug.
The Nijo Castle listing is assigned to Cherry Blossom, which is a sub-category of Gardens and Parks that was removed.
No.
Cherry Blossom has nothing to do with it.
Look at Gardens & Parks for the whole country, Nijo Castle is showing.
Look at the detail listing for Nijo Castle
Yet Nijo Castle is not in the Gardens & Parks category.
How can it be showing in the Gardens & Parks page for the whole country?NOTE: Cherry Blossom is NOT a sub-category of Gardens & Parks.
It seems the index table for Gardens & Parks at the country level has not been updated.
