    Hi

My site is pretty new and all the directory listings and events are ones that I have added myself so far – none added by customers yet.
They seem fine but my issue is that I am seeing a lot (about 75) 404 errors in Google search Console. I attach a file showing a sample of the type of urls that are producing the errors. They are not listing or event pages but rather category pages that do not exist. How can I stop these being indexed. What do you recommend?

I can give you access to the site if you wish.

    Thanks for your help

Link please? Did you check if they are effectively 404?

    Let us know,

    thanks

I recommend you install the “404 Error Logger” plugin as you will be able to see the problems as they are occurring. It can take weeks for them to show up in Google Search Console.

Did you import the data or enter it on the site?

These sorts of errors can occur if the neighborhood was duplicated and then changed.

Are you using the Yoast SEO Plugin?

    Hi Craig

I have installed the 404 error logger plugin as you suggested.

I imported most of the data from Facebook using the social importer.

I’m not sure what you mean about the neighborhood being duplicated then changed? If this has happened does it mean that these errors may not continue?

Yes, I am using Yoast SEO plugin.

    Thanks
    Tia

    Hi Tia,

the biggest problem I see is that you disable the location manager add-on and now all listings are assigned to the default location.

However originally your had multiple locations installed.

    Why is that?

    Let us know,

    Thanks

    Hi Paolo
I don’t know why the location manager is disabled. I will have many different locations (counties).
What should I do now? Do I just have to enable the location manager?
What effect will this have on my existing places/events and will I have to ‘clean up’ my links?

    Thanks,
    Tia

You should re-enable it. Listings should go back to belong to the locations you created for them.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks

    Thank you.
I have enabled the location manager. Should I resubmit the sitemap?
    Thanks

There should be no need for it, I’d set the 404 as resolved and make sure they don’t come back.

    Thanks
