Thanks Guust. Very helpful for thinking this through.
So, if I understand you correctly, you’re suggesting I flip my idea around and let GD be the top-level tier, with everything else falling under the CPTs and Locations?
That brings up a few questions:
-If I create a GD category like “Outdoors,” for example, can I put several different CPTs under it, like Bike, Trails, Waterfalls?
-Can I use the GD location page that’s created as the “parent” page in WP and nest non-GD pages under it as “child” pages? (Non-GD WP pages give me that option now.)
-How can I rename “Locations” since that is place-specific?
-If I remember correctly, I can add text, shortcodes etc. to the Location pages. What about galleries? What about a custom header? Thanks for your help with this. Much appreciated.
Hi Guust,
1) That adds the GD category. I need to create either a category or hierarchical structure in WordPress as well.
2) What kind of code customization?
Let me see if I can explain better.
One of my ‘content silos’ or top-level categories in WordPress will be Outdoors.
There will be several WP subcategories under Outdoors. There will be numerous WP articles under each subcategory.-
Biking & Cycling
Hiking
Trails
Waterfalls
Fishing
Kayaling
ZipliningIn addition, I already have several GD CPTs created that would fit under Outdoors and under some of the subcategories:
-
Bike businesses
Trails
WaterfallsSo I’m trying to figure out how to fit those CPTs into the big content categories (silos) in WordPress.
Does that help explain?
Thanks Alex. Appreciate the quick response!
Sheesh — simple enough. Works!
Lesson learned.
Thanks very much.
Have a great day!
Thanks for looking Guust.
Yes, I did copy text from another application, Evernote to be exact. But I also wrote within the post and added text to the top and bottom. Hmm.
I haven’t added any plugins lately, and not since I’ve created the other CPTs.
Solutions? Delete all the text? Start from scratch?
Thanks for your help.
Marsha
Worked!
What I hope is the last question regarding this:
The category links are not displaying the hover color of orange.
http://adventurebrevard.com/location/I believe I have all the hover colors set appropriately for sidebar widgets in Genesis Design Palette Pro.
Unless the settings for this GD widget are set elsewhere?
I appreciate your guidance.
Thanks so much for your help, Kor.

Kor,
Thanks! This widget has potential.
Circling back to one of the original questions, how do I get rid of the lines under every entry in the he GD > CPT Listings widget in the primary sidebar? I added the CSS code you provided above, which looks like it should remove the lines, but they are still there.

Many thanks for your support.

Thanks Kor. Appreciate that clarification.
Is it possible to make that widget searchable by category? So users can select the category they want to display?
Cheers,

Will try the custom CSS shortly.
Here are two screen shots that show two different categories, Shop and Music, displayed on the map but the Trails listings remain the same.
Please advise.
Thanks again.

Thanks, Guust.
Wishful thinking!
Much appreciated.
Got that.
My site will be 25-30% directory, with the bulk of the content being articles on posts and pages. Hence, I’ll be using WP categories more than GD categories so they have to integrate in an almost invisible way for readers. I don’t readers trying to figure out what the difference is between one category and another.
Using the current example, if I have a GD category “Bike” and I create a WP category “Bike,” the default duplicate WP category name will be “bike-1,” which isn’t very useful for readers. If I name it “Biking,” that might work or might be confusing.
Here’s a question: Can a GD category be a sub-category of a WP parent category?
If I switch it around and make the WP categories the parent categories, i.e. “Bike,” then maybe I can make the GD categories a sub-category, “Bike Guide.” That would be more clear for readers and a simple solution.
And, if I can’t make the GD category a sub-category of a WP category, it can still work as well and be clear to the readers.
I hope that makes more sense?
As always, thanks for your help.
Thanks for the explanation, Guust.
Is there an acceptable workaround that’s invisible to visitors and readers?
Marsha
Got it!
Thanks Kor!
