Ah that helps … thanks!
I agree with updating the php version.
The dev site is on a shared server, however recently in an attempt to improve speed for the live site, I moved the live site from a shared server to a VPS with more resources. This resulted in no real speed increase which tells me it’s not the hosting that’s the issue, it’s something else. It could be the php version because that’s a difference, so I’ll work on that and let you know.
Thanks,
AndrewThanks for that – I’ll look into speeding up the home page.
However, my main concern right now is the search function and the length of time it takes to return search results. I have a dev site set up (https://www.simplfi-mockups.com.au) and the live site (https://www.getaboutable.com) which are both configured almost identically – but with a main difference being the dev site is on PHP 7.2, whereas the live site is on PHP 5.6.
Please try searching for: “Accommodation” / “All” / “Canberra” (dont use drop down menu item) on both, and you’ll see the difference in speed. The fact that the dev site (simplfi-mockups) is considerably faster with search tells me it’s not a server/hosting issue as the dev site is on a shared host, and the live site is on a VPS.
Please let me know your thoughts as I’d like to resolve the sluggishness asap.
Thanks,
AndrewYeah I honestly don’t know what’s causing this …
We moved from a shared server to a VPS a few days ago.
I purched the cache and now the 2nd visit is faster than the 1st.
https://www.dotcom-tools.com/website-speed-test.aspx#92551812F5974439BC5A6ABF19DCF7D8Hi Paolo, I checked my settings/cert stores and I don’t have it saved as an exception … we were getting SSL errors previously, maybe something is caching in your browser?
I’ve attached a screenshot viewing the site using Firefox Focus from my mobile as well.
Hi,
I’m not getting that error … please see screenshot.

This reply has been marked as private.Hi, we’ve moved to a VPS and search queries are still very slow … Could you have a look to see the cause? I’ve confirmed that our theme (Divi) isn’t the issue.
I’ve disabled the “Flow-flow” plugin and I’m finding the performance is the same. Funnily enough, right now all searches I perform are taking 8-10 seconds to complete, however I’ve timed it previously and it was literally taking up to 1 minute.
I’ve been using the cPanel tool: “CPU and Concurrent Connection Usage” and have found that when I perform 2 searches concurrently for ‘All’ post types in all locations (on front page set Category to “All” and leave others fields as default) – the CPU usage hits 99%. Could maxing out CPU be a reason why some searches take a long time to complete?
FYI I’ve also installed that Query Monitor plugin.

In terms of more resources for the DB, have a look at the screenshot I’ve attached – do you believe I need more resources?

Have you guys had a chance to look at this?
Thanks,
