Hi Paolo, I checked my settings/cert stores and I don’t have it saved as an exception … we were getting SSL errors previously, maybe something is caching in your browser?

I’ve attached a screenshot viewing the site using Firefox Focus from my mobile as well.

The website is still very slow. Actually it looks slower than before.

The second visit should always be faster and now it’s slower. https://www.dotcom-tools.com/website-speed-test.aspx#726079E849004BC998EEC46F41F6CD2D

What kind of server are you trying to use?

    Yeah I honestly don’t know what’s causing this …

We moved from a shared server to a VPS a few days ago.

I purched the cache and now the 2nd visit is faster than the 1st.

yes I can see it is a bit faster now, but it is still extremely slow. The problem is definitely not the search.

It loads in minimum 3 sec from the faster locations. A good server should load a web page in less than 1 sec.

The home page is 3.3mb. You should make it at least 80% lighter.

The hero image in the home page for example is way too big for the web.

If you click on the Page Speed Insight tab you’ll find few other suggestions: https://www.dotcom-tools.com/website-speed-test.aspx#D4446AA76B0F417C80E4E583A76D3FFC

However you should really consider something better for your hosting.

    Thanks

Thanks for that – I’ll look into speeding up the home page.

However, my main concern right now is the search function and the length of time it takes to return search results. I have a dev site set up (https://www.simplfi-mockups.com.au) and the live site (https://www.getaboutable.com) which are both configured almost identically – but with a main difference being the dev site is on PHP 7.2, whereas the live site is on PHP 5.6.

Please try searching for: “Accommodation” / “All” / “Canberra” (dont use drop down menu item) on both, and you’ll see the difference in speed. The fact that the dev site (simplfi-mockups) is considerably faster with search tells me it’s not a server/hosting issue as the dev site is on a shared host, and the live site is on a VPS.

Please let me know your thoughts as I’d like to resolve the sluggishness asap.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

I would start by upgrading PHP to latest version on the second website too, but because the site are iderntical and the dev site is faster, I would assume that the problem is on the server that is hosting the live site.

    or are they not identical?

I agree with updating the php version.

The dev site is on a shared server, however recently in an attempt to improve speed for the live site, I moved the live site from a shared server to a VPS with more resources. This resulted in no real speed increase which tells me it’s not the hosting that’s the issue, it’s something else. It could be the php version because that’s a difference, so I’ll work on that and let you know.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

PHP is a server script and a good server configuration is vital to have good loading time. It is definitely a server problem.
