The query is not sorting correctly, it HAS to be the server, the query is being tried direct on the DB which means it does not even care if WordPress is installed or not.

It seems to work ok for me, you should try updating GD + all addons they are very out of date.

Did u add the required category marker icon?
You might be best adding the dummy data first so you can see the setup of cats.

It seem your DB queries are cached or something, or just not working right. can you provide Database access like phpMyAdmin?
