how do you do that? no setting I can find in Geodirectory > Advanced Search or in the Category editor
February 1, 2016 at 6:18 pm in reply to: Images… imagine if Geodirectory simply used Media Library… #115181good points about the attachment entries and truly valid
however my issue is that you prepend path to uploads folder instead of allowing using a URL (cdn or otherwise) and require uploading from the computer
when you look at sites that use images served from uploads folder they are invariably a source of slow loading – and most directories of size should be on VPS, and storage on VPS is expensive
currently I can’t use Geodirectory without going into the database and correcting everything
from the showcase sites — look at the gtmetrix waterfall image loading times…
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.visitmidlothian.org.uk/vSVe4q9Q Page Load Time 11.2s
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.openmindtrips.com/JQoOKfEt Page Load Time 15.7s
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.love-weymouth.co.uk/C41g3Kmy Page Load Time 10.9sother ones that are in the 5 to 8 second range are getting delayed at least a second or more
the only demo site that was loading fast has some nginx pagespeed tweaks (that I am certainly going to look at)
hard to defend not allowing more flexibility with images – the very least to allow using a URL instead of forcing path to uploads folder
doing a CSV upload to the database is going to be pretty painless. At first I thought I was going to have a whole lot of these but turns out will substitute subcategories and tags in lieu of dozens of custom field checkboxes. but when doing more than one website every 10 minutes is an eternity so not having to manually enter them was why I asked, but no big deal. mark as resolved
Hi – thanks for fast response.
entering the zipcode in the ‘near’ field does in fact find listings. where do we edit ‘near’?
the shortcode [gd_advanced_search] does not produce a list of categories – it produces four things
CPT
keyword
near
search buttonno option to list categories and subcategories in the search box?
thanks for prompt reply, looks like fairly straight-forward to add through database assuming that populating “wp_geodir_custom_fields” table is all that would be required
have you tried the plugin yourself? I couldn’t get it to work
January 30, 2016 at 5:46 pm in reply to: Schema Type for Custom Post Type – what is schema type ? #114257I still don’t understand what you want us to do
No, I didn’t ask you to load the full hierarchy. but some schemas that apply to many thousands of places weren’t available. I couldn’t get the “plugin” to work so I edited the core file to suite my needs.
don’t need anything on this particular point, thanks
I edited cat_meta.php to include more schema
I think it will be easier to just edit that as updates occur than mess around with the plugin

they do change periodically and also some become deprecated
Hi –
unfortunately I can’t get that plugin to update the category schema and I’m sort of stuck – I’m ready to upload a gazillion listings and I don’t want them to get indexed without the right schema.
It activates, just won’t add schema – I posted on the thread you referred me to.
I gave up playing with the plugin and simply edited cat_meta.php
thanks

plugin activates – but nothing added.
I tried both a higher tier and lower tier schema
there are a lot missing by the way so this is sort of important
so the geodirectory policy is that we have to create a plugin and edit it each time we discover that the default values provided by geodir are outdated?
January 30, 2016 at 8:14 am in reply to: Trouble with Custom Fields: Column creation failed, you may have too many column #114014Hi – thanks for prompt follow-up
whats happening is that if the type is checkbox and you put something in “default value” for link it apparently chokes on it
so far that appears to be the cause
