    Happy new year.

On my places section within my site it is only possible to sort most recently added or alphabetically and then to view in a variety of grid formats.

I’d like to be able sort/have the option to list places based upon the categories I have set up so that users can select categories and view places that match those categories.

e.g. i have 5 regions, and then sub categories based upon the type of business and i’d like people to be able to select region 2, restaurants, italian, vegan so that only italian restaurants that list vegan food within region 2 are displayed.

You cannot sort by categories on the Listings page, but you can add the Popular Category widget to the Listings page, so your visitors can select the category they like.

I was trying to get this to work but by having the options pre-set whereby users can select from multiple options. Just not sure how to get the search to work

    “Custom field search
You can also filter search results by any custom fields you may have added to your listings. If you added modifiers such as “pet-friendly,” “disabled access,” or “free wifi”, you can now filter search to show only those results: pet-friendly hotels with disabled access within 10 miles of me? Sorted.”

Search and sorting are not the same.
Have a look here to search by categories or custom fields:

I’d like to be able to create something similar to what is described in the instructions but there are no instructions on how to get an advanced search to display, as in the attached screenshot.
