Hello! Can I not show categories that are not present in a given location in the search filter list? I have not found such settings in the short code.
August 23, 2019 at 9:40 am #504545This reply has been marked as private.August 23, 2019 at 10:02 am #504548The category field does not know what location the visitor will enter into the Near field, so that is not possible.
Thanks
August 23, 2019 at 11:11 am #504557I know that you can use the category short code to show which categories are relevant to the active location. Is there no way to do this in the filter list?
August 23, 2019 at 11:46 am #504560No, because may want to search for a different location.
You can use the GD categories shortcode like you said. Thanks
August 23, 2019 at 12:21 pm #504563I suggest in the next update that the list of categories be dynamically changed according to the location. This is very convenient and informative for the visitor to the site.
Please see for example: the Maldives country https://telehaus.com.ua/country/maldives/?region-id=81- has 3 categories in the Services filter. Atoll Baa region https://telehaus.com.ua/country/maldives/?region-id=210&services%5B%5D=0# – in the filter of 2 categories.
August 23, 2019 at 10:59 pm #504661Firstly, that example does not allow visitors to search for anything, but only to filter the existing listings on the page [or in the region?].
It does not allow to filter in any other region, limiting the visitor. You can use the GD Locations widget or shortcode, that will only list cities in the region or country.
And use the GD Categories widget or shortcode, so only relevant categories are shown. Thanks
August 24, 2019 at 7:53 am #504700Guust, good afternoon! Thank you for explaining. I agree with you. I was wrong.
Regarding your recommendation: Unfortunately, I can’t use GD Locations widget or shortcode because I’m changing the map language and changing the addresses in the listings to match the active language. Therefore, GD Locations displays several city names in different languages, which is not good.
Let’s close this question. I will continue to design with the existing functionality.
August 27, 2019 at 1:15 pm #505141Good afternoon! I’ll continue with the question. I noticed that the GD_Locations shortcode does not correctly list the category buttons. This is provided that the user has entered a location near the one for which there are no listings. The example is “Paris” https://dev.verni.com.ua/location/near/gps/48.856614,2.3522219000000177/. GD_Locations shows a list of category buttons for which all countries are listed on the site. This is error, is it? After all, GD_Map shortcode does not have such an error. How can I fix this?
August 27, 2019 at 1:39 pm #505148By the way, this feature also does not work well on the demo site https://wpgeo.directory/gdf/location/near/gps/48.856614,2.3522219000000177/ I’m looking for Houston and I’ve got a list of category buttons that the site doesn’t give the user the results they expect when they’re clicked on. At the same time, we can see on the map that the search result for Houston is zero. Don’t you think it’s strange? It is even more strange that after the search we do not see anywhere what settlement we were looking for, but only see the title of the page “Location”.
What should the user understand by “Near: GPS Location”?
August 27, 2019 at 10:42 pm #505230GD Locations, you are correct, it is not a ‘nearby’ type of feature. Improvements are planned for the feature in the future, but there are other priorities ahead of it.
We also have a task to look at the title for the Near pages in a future version, thanks for making us aware of that again.
We will be working on these for a future version but cannot give a date at this time.
August 28, 2019 at 6:44 am #505276Thank you for hearing my opinion. I will be waiting for the new version to be released. In the meantime the feature isn’t working properly, I’d like to hide the near search feature from visitors. I would also like to hide the “Near: My Location” feature. This will help to avoid misunderstandings with the list of wrong category buttons. Then I will be ready to launch the site in operation. Can you help solve this issue?
August 28, 2019 at 6:49 am #505278This CSS will hide the near search field
/*GDV2 Custom CSS - Hide the Search Near field in all GD Search Bars */ .gd-search-field-near { display: none; }
August 28, 2019 at 7:01 am #505281No, that’s not what I meant. Please look at the screenshot.
The search field should be left to allow them to find locations for listings that are available on the site, but they should be prohibited from finding locations near something and “My location”
This should be done on the location switcher.
August 28, 2019 at 8:41 am #505290And I also thought it would be possible not to show a block of category buttons if there are no listings for this type of listing for this location on the page. Is this difficult to do?
