It seems to be the case that by default, ‘places’ are listed according to date added. I presume that ‘featured’ listings will show above standard listings. But there are no sorting options showing for me (I am running Listimia) should there be sorting options?

    Hi matthew,

Thanks for your post. You can refer to this section of the documentation https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/places/sorting/ for your reference. Let us know if it helps.

Thanks I have been used to simply checking buttons in admin to control sorting in my previous directory software so this is all taking some learning.

I have tried to follow this but the screen shots and therefore instructions seem to be out of date.

Please could you help me to fix my site so the category listings can be sorted by price by default?

That requires a customization to implement, outside of what we can help with here in support.

I am confused at how the listings are ordered by default (out of the box).

Before migrating to GD I’d presumed that GD would cater for listing sorting options as they are key to being able to charge advertisers for the tiered package pricing. It seems that many things with GD require a good helping of coding and DIY, given its being billed as ‘the most advanced plugin’ out there I am hopeful that these features (also control over the search system) will be built-in in the longer term for the benefit of GD users.

In the short term I would like to customise to allow listings to be ordered by these factors

    1) Featured
    2) Price
    3) Last update date / or ‘claimed’

Would you be able to quote for this?

    Hello,

Sorting has a variety of features built in. To accomplish what you want you can consider the following:

    Sort by price package id

Consider rebuilding your price packages in order by ID such that “Gold” has ID 20, Silver ID 15 etc so that sorting by package ID (descending) achieves what you want.

    Featured

Featured is already a sort option. However, featured is either included or excluded from a package, so, sorting by package ID would probably accomplish the same thing. It is more common to use GD Listings to show a group of “Featured only” listings across packages in a page footer or sidebar.

You can still sort by featured, though, with order as descending (o->1). A sort of featured can include any price package that includes featured. If you add a subsort, you can sort by title or Add date (ascending shows oldest listings first).

    Claimed

You can sort by claimed, or by post add date. Claimed is a on/off like featured. You could have a sort though that is Sort Claimed (descending) and then subsort by add date (descending) to show the newest listings first.

I have put together a note about sorting options and your suggestions for the developers and they will consider them for future versions. We do not perform any customizations here in the forum, paid or otherwise. You can contact paid support here: https://geodirectoryexperts.com

    Thank you

    Alex

    Thanks Alex

Just to clarify, I don’t necessarily want the visitor to be able to choose the criteria by which the categories by which the listings are filtered/ sorted.

I am most concerned about how the listings are returned by default. I need to provide my paying advertisers with greater exposure (they are paying for) though having paid listings featured above free ones etc.

This is how the previous directory software that I used worked out of the box, so I naturally assumed GD would cater for this. It’s also clear that GD is aimed at web developers rather than directory owners / managers. I am really confused by all the options and advice.

Did you have an additional question about what I described above? This is how GD currently does what you are asking.
