Is there a way, like a plugin maybe, that can be integrated into a directory like this that will allow users to create/claim a pretty URL? When I first started out it was highly recommended that if I’m creating a world directory that the permalinks include everything. I didn’t want to do this initially. The result is ugly:
    https://veganlinked.com/food/united-states/north-carolina/horse-shoe/garlik-vegan/

    ideally it would be:
    https://veganlinked.com/garlik

Is there a way to make it so users can create a pretty url like that example? I mean, the long one is fine for SEO, but it would be cool if they could create another on top of that basically somehow that is more concise and usable.

There are no official recommendations for such a plugin and I have not personally used one before.

You can disable the locations in urls via GD settings – Permalinks and disable “Add location in urls”.

    Hey Jeff,

From my point of view, these permalinks https://veganlinked.com/food/united-states/north-carolina/horse-shoe/garlik-vegan/ improves SERP, not just SEO.

    Thanks!

    Thanks guys,

SERP is cool, what I was imagining is for the URL to be left as is. But, for their to be a second kind of URL opportunity. So, https://veganlinked.com/food/united-states/north-carolina/horse-shoe/garlik-vegan/ would still exist for SERP. Additionally though, it would be ideal/awesome if the same user could have a way to create a pretty url like veganlinked.com/garlik. I think it should be easily achievable/possible, right? If there’s not something out there to do this now, like a plugin, I’m sure there will be one day… 🙂 I’ll look deeper when I have more time. Thanks again!
