Hello,
I am exported a CSV of all places. I then updated various fields in the CSV and imported. However, it has duplicated every single listing. I have cross referenced the post_id with my import and the original export and it is exactly the same. This did used to work but is now duplicating everything. Luckily I had made a backup. Can you please help me import and overwriting the original listings instead of creating duplicates?
Thank you.
August 24, 2019 at 10:48 am #504708Hi james,
Thanks for your post. You’ll have to merge the listings following the instructions here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/#faq . Could you give it a try?
August 24, 2019 at 1:04 pm #504722Make sure that you use the same post IDs and re-import with the correct setting, see image.
ThanksAugust 25, 2019 at 7:03 am #504796I can confirm I used the correct post ids and followed this method.
It used to work then all of the sudden they just duplicate. These same listings never used to duplicate, can you please take a look for me?
August 25, 2019 at 7:13 am #504798Are you saying that you have two different listings with exactly the same post ID?
Post your URL and WP admin and CSV file in a private reply if you want us to have a look, but it sounds like you may have imported without post IDs or possibly re-named the post ID column.

I can see listings that have the same title and content, but not the same post ID, which suggests you did import without post IDs or renamed the post ID column.

August 25, 2019 at 7:28 am #504803I am confused, these post ids are exactly the same?
August 25, 2019 at 8:03 am #504805See image, there are 3 different post IDs: 2018, 16778 and 16759.
August 26, 2019 at 6:13 am #504872Apologies for the confusion. The reason it is showing 3 different post ids is because this is after I imported twice to check. You are seeing the problem right there. This is what happens when I do an import with places with the same post ids as existing places. It creates brand new entries and gives them a new post id which is not what I want. I just want it to update the existing places.
Steps I am doing.
1) I have exported a CSV of all places.
2) I have amended a few of the description entries with new information.
3) I then check the post ID’s in the CSV to make sure they are the same post ids as the ones on the website. They are exactly the same.
4) I import using this option “Update listing if post with post_id already exists.”
5) I check my places on the website and I have double the amount of places now and each import has a new post id and it did not update the existing entry.Luckily I did a backup. Therefore I have now put the website back to how it should be. This will enable you to do an import and you will see the problem.

Having a closer look at the image you posted, it looks like you are using Excel instead of LibreOffice or OpenOffice. Excel injects other data with the result that although a post ID may look like 2108 for example, there is extra invisible data attached and therefore WordPress thinks you are uploading new posts.
Try using LibreOffice to edit your CSV file: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/
Thanks
