I’ve been trying to find a way to add a custom text to the form fields but I can’t be able to find how to do it. The first two – title and description are default and cannot enter a custom message there. So, I can only do this by editing the PHP file? What happens when there’s an update, will it be overwritten?
– I want a listing to look like this: http://yoga-studios.nl/name-of-yoga-studio However I can’t seem to find out how. it’s now like this: http://yoga-studios.nl/places/name-of-yoga-studio (shortest possible)
I also want to list all listings within a location. Like the following: http://yoga-studios.nl/Zuid-Holland/Rotterdam That will list all listings under this city. But if I choose the short perma links without city included the page returns empty. If i choose to add city slug in the perma links then it works. But then the perma links become like the following: http://yoga-studios.nl/places/City/name-of-yoga-studio That’s way too long, I think it’s not nice for the owner of the listing. You want to have a short URL.
Is there a way to do this?
Thank You
January 13, 2017 at 7:17 am #341944Hi Victor,
Are you trying to display a custom text below/above the title & description in the “Add Listings” page? Unfortunately, you can’t remove “places” from the permalinks as it is required for the CPT to work. I’d like you to check out this section of the documentation as it explains how permalink and the permalink option works in GD. https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-permalinks/ and https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-permalinks/#location
Thanks!
January 13, 2017 at 8:55 am #341968To turn http://yoga-studios.nl/1/rotterdam/e-qi-libre/ into
http://yoga-studios.nl/e-qi-libre/
go to GD > Permalinks > and UN-tick “Add location in urls” and “Add category in listing urls”All your listings for Rotterdam are at this page:
http://yoga-studios.nl/location/netherlands/zuid-holland/rotterdamWithout checking the backend of your site, we don’t know why that does not work,
http://yoga-studios.nl/location/
works, so you must have different names for your country or region.January 15, 2017 at 7:40 am #342968Yes, I want to add some custom text there when people fill in the form. I want to tell them that they need to write an original piece of text for their description and not copy and paste from their own site as this will be duplicate content to Google.
The perma links i wrote down are just an example. Here’s the real one:
http://yoga-studios.nl/1/hatha-yoga-rotterdam/
I turned off location settings now.
This is the location listing under city name:
http://yoga-studios.nl/1/zuid-holland-1/rotterdam/But it not display anything if i turn off ” Add location slug in listing urls”. You can try the URL above.
I hope you understand what I mean.
Thanks
January 15, 2017 at 8:25 am #342980http://yoga-studios.nl/location/zuid-holland-1/rotterdam/ is a location page like
http://yoga-studios.nl/location/zuid-holland-1/
http://yoga-studios.nl/location/This is a Listings page:
http://yoga-studios.nl/1/
And you are using “1” as the slug. You should not use a GD Home Map widget on a GD Listings page, but you should use the GD Listings Map widget. Please review https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/layout/#directory
These are the settings if you want http://yoga-studios.nl/hatha-yoga-rotterdam/ as the URL for a listing detail page: see image
If we need to check your settings, post your WP admin details in a private reply.
Thanks
January 15, 2017 at 5:09 pm #343107I already turned it off.
http://yoga-studios.nl/1/hatha-yoga-rotterdam/ that’s the URL. I cannot make it shorter like you said with no directory in place. http://yoga-studios.nl/hatha-yoga-rotterdam/The problem is, the location pages are not working with these settings:
http://yoga-studios.nl/1/zuid-holland-1/rotterdam/Click the link to see it.
January 15, 2017 at 10:14 pm #343193Read again, these are your location pages, “1” is for your listings, not locations
http://yoga-studios.nl/location/zuid-holland-1/rotterdam/
http://yoga-studios.nl/location/zuid-holland-1/
http://yoga-studios.nl/location/This is a Detail page for one listing:
http://yoga-studios.nl/1/hatha-yoga-rotterdam/
My mistake, you need at least the “Listing url prefix” which in your case is “1”.January 16, 2017 at 2:29 am #343351Ah, I got what you mean now. 🙂 Thanks!
And if i want to change the name “location” I have to do that in the language file right?
Any idea how to add custom text to the description field yet?
Thanks again Guust for your help.
January 16, 2017 at 5:55 am #343366You can just change the title and slug of the location page, there’s no need to use the language file for that.
If you want to change “location” in the breadcrumbs, then you need to use the language file. You cannot add any text below the description field, but you can just add some text above the form, by adding it to the Add Listing page itself.
Another option is to add instructions in the sidebar. Thanks
