Is there anyway to have the default location of a user either their STATE or a certain radius around them instead of the city where they are – many “cities” do not have any listings so “No records Found” comes up and it looks really bad.
June 3, 2015 at 7:34 pm #41446Hello, unfortunately it is not possible. The location feature is made to be the most accurate possible based on the location of who’s visiting.
June 3, 2015 at 9:06 pm #41464If you use GeoLocation, that will not happen, because if there are no listings in his area, the user will be redirected to the closest city with listings.
Thanks

June 6, 2015 at 4:29 pm #41724Well I am certainly confused. This is my experience on my Android phone:
In GD>>Advanced Search>>ask user if they wish to be geolocated>> box NOT ticked
RESULT: I get pop up asking me if I want to be geolocated (first confusing thing). I say YES and get a blank map with? “No Records Found” (Second confusing thing as your info above, to me, says, if geolocation is on you will get results nearest to you)
In GD>>Advanced Search>>ask user if they wish to be geolocated>> box ticked
RESULT: No pop up and no geolocation
What am I doing wrong here??

that is happening because you have plenty of locations with no listings…
You shouldn’t have empty locations if you want everything to work as it should.
Thanks
June 8, 2015 at 11:06 pm #41852Hi Paolo
I have to respectfully disagree. Per your message above the user should be redirected to the nearest location where there are records.
In addition, I am located very near places that is in our database and I still get “No Records Found” results.
This should not happen. I get complaints from everyone who tests out the site – even from people that are right in the middle of Boston.
I have taken a look at the “Request” section as well & it seems like to me that GeoLocation should return result IN and AROUND the users area. What does around mean – is there a radius? If so what is it?
It appears, at least to me, that geoLocated results are served up per the narrowest google maps user location. This is not useful and honestly lead to a poop user experience.
June 9, 2015 at 10:24 pm #41961Hi,
with Chrome when can send fake lat and long and emulate how a website is viewed from another location.
If I set my fake location in Boston:
Latitude : 42.3600825
Longitude: -71.05888010000001I’m redirected to Boston and I see listings. See image attached.
In order to know what’s not working for you, please provide examples.
What happen when you share your location, to what city are you redirected and you see No listings Found?
For example, me I’m in Mexico and if I share my true location with your website I’m redirected to Orlando Florida where there are no listings, so it’s normal to get that result.
Let us know,
Thanks
