Hey everyone. I was just wondering how to automatically prompt the user for their location upon entering the site as is shown in the example here: https://wpgeo.directory
I’d love to be able to have my visitors located to display the nearest locations to them without the need for them to click the ‘near me’ button. As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂
October 22, 2016 at 2:08 am #289529You can achieve that with the Advanced Search Addon.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/advanced-search-filters/October 22, 2016 at 2:21 am #289531Thanks, but this isn’t quite what I was referring to. In the example: https://wpgeo.directory
it does it automatically without the user having to hit the ‘near me’ button. As soon as the site loads, you’re prompted to share your location. In the Advanced Search plugin, which is still very cool, the user has to hit the ‘near me’ button before this occurs.October 22, 2016 at 3:05 am #289534Have you tried this setting:
GD > Advanced search > REDIRECT SETTINGS ON FIRST TIME LOAD > First time load redirect > Redirect to nearest location (on first time load users will be auto geolocated and redirected to nearest geolocation found)PS: Please log in with your current membership if you’d like support for GD addons.
October 23, 2016 at 11:48 pm #290375Hi there. I would like to buy the Advanced Search plugin for this feature too, but I don’t see it in the docs. Can you please send me the link to where it shows this feature in the docs? Thanks
October 24, 2016 at 12:20 am #290381Have a look here:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/advanced-search-filters/The documentation needs updating for this addon. I’ll prioritize it.
October 24, 2016 at 11:33 pm #291271GD > Advanced search > REDIRECT SETTINGS ON FIRST TIME LOAD > First time load redirect > Redirect to nearest location (on first time load users will be auto geolocated and redirected to nearest geolocation found)

I have the newest version of Advanced search and still I don’t see the option “GD > Advanced search > REDIRECT SETTINGS ON FIRST TIME LOAD > First time load redirect > Redirect to nearest location”
Please let me know where I’m going wrong.

Install the Location Manager and that setting should pop up.October 25, 2016 at 12:01 am #291283I wasn’t aware of the need for the Location Manager plugin. Excellent support! Thanks again!
October 25, 2016 at 12:15 am #291285You’re welcome 🙂
October 25, 2016 at 3:17 am #291297Hi again. I have another quick question.
I discovered that you need a SSL certificate in order to automatically locate on Safari and Chrome. This is fine, I am installing one now and testing in Firefox for the time being.
However, I noticed there’s an option ‘Ask user if they wish to be geolocated’ <- this is exactly what I need. I have it checked, but it doesn’t actually work unless I also activate ‘First time load redirect’ to either ‘default location’ or ‘closest location’. I really can’t have a redirect to these pages because I have a terms and conditions page that needs to be accepted once you enter my site and secondly I have a homepage that the user should be brought to instead.
So far, I’m able to get it to redirect to the /location/me page and then if I navigate to /home, I am geolocated, which is great – but I need to go straight to the home page instead.
As an alternative, I was able to disable the ‘First time load redirect’ and simply click the compass button on the homepage and it also achieves geolocation. Can I trigger this function on page-load instead of having to hit the compass button?
October 25, 2016 at 12:02 pm #291382The only way to trigger it on page load, is on entry to your site, which you don’t want.
As you already discovered, alternatively it can be triggered by ticking the “near me” box.
There is one other way, which is by adding the “GD > Near Me Button” widget to your page. -
