    Hi,

Looking at using GeoDirectory to power my directory. Can’t get the sample directory link to work (emails don’t come through) and the showcase directories seem limited.

Looking for anyone willing to share their directory site and experience with GeoDirectory.

I’ve tried Brilliant Directories – didn’t work out – a lot of back & forth – expensive customization and also tried to set up Business Directory Plug-In which unfortunately has a few limitations with the solution from the developer typically being to “hack” the plug-in. I’m not technical so not a great solution.

Any help or input is much appreciated. GeoDirectory looks like a great product. Thanks, Tony

    Hi,

I can’t really talk on behalf of our customers, but her you will find plenty of their opinions: https://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/geodirectory

If you give us more details about the problem that you encountered with other solutions, we will tell you how GeoDirectory will handle those things.

I agree the showcase section is kinda poor, but we can’t force anyone to share their links in it.

Please members, showcase your websites!!! 🙂

    Thanks

    Hi Paolo,

Thanks for the quick response – very impressive plus the outstanding reviews. Here are the issues:

    1) Not being able to add a custom image for featured listings (which I understand from an email that Geodirectories can do).

    2) Can a featured member list in as many categories as they want and only pay once (Business Directories required a featured member to pay for each category)?

    3) Is it possible to have only part of the home page show up on my home page by selecting code? That may not be properly phrased as I’m going to use a web designer to complete this. Basically, I would like to still use my current home page and just portions of the GeoDirectory home page on it and then have as a sub-page the full GeoDirectories home page.

And lastly, I tried the demo site at:
    http://wptry.it/try-geodirectory/?preview#Geo%20Bold%20-%20Genesis%20Child%20Theme
I entered my email address twice and two different email addresses and was told I would receive an activation link. Is there another way to view the demo site. I have checked my spam filters for the activation emails.

    Thanks,

    Tony

    Hi again,

    1) if you mean a custom banner for feature images instead of the default that is possible yes. If I misunderstood, please let me know.

    2) You set the category limit per price, so if your price allows for unlimited categories, users will be able to add their listing to as many category as they want and pay only once.

    3) Yes you can via shortcodes or widgets.

I’ve just tested the demo and I got my activation link. What email address are you using?

    I’ll check the mailserver logs.

    Thanks

    1) You can only have a “featured” banner on top of the listing image, for example: http://wpgeo.directory/ that banner you can change with whatever you want.

    2) Not sure I understand… Every listing is added by a user via a front end form…

    3) I’ve removed the email requirement to launch a sandbox for that demo.

    Thank you

    Hi Paolo,

Thanks – okay, sorry this can a challenge through email –

On the Featured Listings – can the custom image show up next to the listing image – it would not be a banner – basically it’s a “badge” that would show up with the listing – so that a visitor to the site would know that a person has qualified for that “badge”.

BTW, the demo still requires an email or I’m not doing it correctly and the link you sent doesn’t seem to have any featured listings – apologize if I’m not seeing something.

Regarding the form – not sure I phrased it correctly, however, I’ve figured it out.

Big question for me is whether I can have a custom image appear with premium listings? Not a banner just an image. If it’s better for me to just try it out, I can do that.

    Thanks again, Tony

Hi Tony, if I understand you correctly, you can add a badge as a custom field.
You can create a custom field that only is available to some price packages, and/or that can only be edited by admins.
So you could just create a SELECT custom field that if ticked, it will show an image below or next to the listing’s photo.
You would just need to do some CSS to make that work.

This post explains what I am talking about, but the images have been lost in a recent server crash, and I will need to get them up again.

I attached an image that shows an example using a custom field and some specific styling. The concept would be the same.

    Hi Guust,

Thanks – very helpful. Though CSS coding sounds complex. I did buy the 4 month package and will give it a try.
