MaxCDN is NOT enabled. The image exists in the media library.
I changed the category that a place belonged to and the featured image no longer showed against the place on the front end.In the admin area I can select the image from the media library and look at the attachment details they are correct, however the image is not shown and the links to the show attachment page take me to a page not found.
If I edit the place, I am unable to re-select the image from the media library, I have to re-upload it

The offending image is the picture of a shop with a red and white stripe canopy

May 23, 2016 at 7:09 pm #196769Do you have an estimated time for a fix for this bug?
May 23, 2016 at 7:35 pm #196786What bug? The image is simply missing from the media folder. It must have been deleted.
I tried changing catgeory to many listings to test and the featured image never got displaced.
Thanks

Becuase we can’t.
I can reproduce this bug every time, I even gave you access to our system so you could try it out for yourselves, happy to help you reproduce, please treat this issue with the respect it deserves,
If you wish me to talk you through images getting deleted when places change categories on our system then please let me walk you through it, It happened again ten minutes ago.
I was proving that no records found on the front end home page message was as a direct result of an SQL query that only looks for places attached to top level categories for another thread I have running on here when I came accross the problem.
It seems to be frustratingly and unnecessarily difficult to get acceptance a clearly defined and re-producable bug.
If you care to add your own image to any one of the places in our site then I will just change the category that business belongs to and you can see for yourself that it has gone.
I would also appreciate a solution to the missing places on the home page which has absolutely NOTHING to do with map markers as indicated in this thread https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/front-page-map-markers-disappeared-after-updating-geodirectory/#post-196749
Kind regards
James
Thanks
May 23, 2016 at 8:24 pm #196809Hi,
Even only a refresh of the page after adding the image would make it disappear. it’s not the category change and it is not a bug.
In settings >> media, you had “Organise my uploads into month- and year-based folders” disabled.
Listings in GeoDirectory must be attached to both sub and parent category. it will not work if you only attach them to the sub catgeory.
Thanks

Yes this was deliberately set to enable simpler ftp’ing of images, are you suggesting that disabling this setting does not work and the option to disable shouldn’t be there? or is there a mistake I have made? Perhaos this feature should be removed?
Thank’s for taking the time to look again.Listings in GeoDirectory must be attached to both sub and parent category. it will not work if you only attach them to the sub catgeory.
It used to work, this problem appeared somewhere between version 6.0 and 6.2. I can restore to a backup made 9 days ago and all is good. I am aware that attaching to the top level category fixes the home page map as I pointed this out in the opening post.
The map on the listings page works fine without needing to attach to top level categories.
I could find nowhere in the changelogs that was deliberately introduced changed behaviour, I checked before postingI restored to a backup made 9 days ago prior to upgrading Geodirectory.
and places were showing fine. I then went through upgradig every plugin one by one and checking after each upgrade and all was ok until the upgrade of Geodirectory and then everything disappeared with no places found messages. It is odd that the listing map still works without needing places to be at top level and if this really is the new expected behaviour then it would have been useful to have had such a major change documented. Saves a lot of frustration.
Thanks again for taking the time to look into this issue
May 23, 2016 at 9:09 pm #196822Hi,
1 please see: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/basic-installation/#media
We can’t remove that setting being a WordPress setting and not a plugin setting. But it is mandatory to be enabled for GD to work.
2 As far as I know, GeoDirectory never worked has you described. Since the 1st release of the plugin it’s always been mandatory to add the listing to both parent and sub category to work correctly. There are posts from 2014 about this in the forum.
I’ve just downloaded v1.60 to test and see if I’ve always been wrong all this time. I’ll let you know asap.
Thanks

Brilliant, thank you, I totally missed that. I’ll make the change.

I’ll restore my site to a point that it worked so you can see if that is helpful?
Also the listings map works fine without places being attached to top level
May 23, 2016 at 9:29 pm #196828Hi,
I’m just testing now with version 1.5.8 and the system automatically adds the main category if only the subcatgeory is selected.
The only way to add a subcategory without a parent was via select field and we fixed that in version 1.5.7:
For category field type “select” it should add parent category also when a sub-category is selected – FIXED
Prabably now the only way is via CSV import and in docs we say:
When adding a listing in a subcategory, you should also add the main category. Separate category names with a comma
Point 4 of important things to know here : https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-export/
Thanks
May 23, 2016 at 10:00 pm #196839OK, so for your information We were able to manually delete the top level category from a place in the admin area, in fact it was this action that caused us to notice the featured image going missing.
May 23, 2016 at 10:32 pm #196879By parent category do you mean all parent categories? or just the top level category, we nest categories to 3 levels? If all parent categories then how does that work with category restrictions settings in the Prices and Payments settings? If a place needs attaching to all levels and we only want to allow for two categories for an unpaid listing does that mean we have to actually allow for 6 categories to be chosen, whch would then mean that the category restriction is useless
