    Hi Paul,

Yes they should be in each level of cat.
How would it make the cat restriction useless?

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

    Hi Stiofan
    I have a Greek takeaway/restaurant

The site has the following category structure

    Food
    —–Takeaway
    ———-Greek
    ———-Italian
    ———-etc…
    —–Restaurants
    ———-Greek
    ———-Italian
    ———-etc…

If the site has a restriction of one category for an unpaid listing then in version 6.0.0 I could place my listing under either Greek taeaways or Greek restaurants

Under the current version I would have to allow 3 categories just to be placed under Greek takeaway. (Food, Takeaway, Greek)

    Now, I own a Healthfood store/Pharmacy
The site has a category Hierarchy of

    Stores
    Health and healing
    Pharmacy

With the required 3 categories just to be able to place a restaurant in the correct category I could list actually list my heralthfood store in all three of the above top level categories without needing to upgrade.

From a data design point of view this also makes no sense to have to list all/any parents.

To have every single record listed at a top level category also makes a bad design choice

To come back to your question then
Extremely more importantly a visitor looking under Greek restaurants or takeaways is not going to find me in either if I restrict to one category because I would have to list my restaurant under Food. This makes for an extremely unattractive visitor experience and therefore makes our site less than useless to businesses who can;t be found

The issue is far more complex than this but I’m sure if you think it through you’ll start to gain an understanding that it is impossible to set a category limit that makes any sense if places have to be listed in all parent categories. It’s just quite literally nonsense.

The only choice I have is that I am going to switch off the front page map as it doesn’t achieve what it used to achieve. I am going to not list in parent categories.

I’ll try to find a way of getting the map that is shown on the listings page, which works perfectly, without the need for parent associations, onto the home page.

I’ll let you know if/how I am able to achieve this

It’s a shame that the change between 6.0.0 and 6.0.2 happened.

Perhaps an alternative and simpler illustration is to think of a file explorer tree view, it’s counter intuitive to be able to see all files at all levels of folder in the tree view.
A file that lives in my games folder should not be visible in the root folder
