I have a free package for place CPT with a field “featured” set for admin only. When I select “featured” for a listing I want to see that listing first on the homepage gd_listings and the listings/archive page.

The shortcode builder for gd_listings doesn’t have a parameter for featured in anyway. Your documentation https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-shortcodes/ shows list_sort and order_by but neither of those are in the shortcode builder. “sort_by” is in the shortcode builder though. The documentation only appears to show sort_by for custom post categories and doesn’t even show all the options that sort_by truly has.

    I’ve tried order_by, sort_by, list_sort adding featured (e.g. list_sort=”featured”) but it never works.

I want to sort by “featured” and “latest”. How may I do that for the homepage and the listings/archive/search pages?

Ok, this is awesome! All is good in the universe now. I needed this page: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/featured-listings/

However, I’m still not sure how to control the homepage: http://www.ThingsToDoInNC.com at the bottom where I show listings.

So, I guess I’m back to my original question, how do I sort listings by featured first on the homepage? Also, the “Featured” badge is showing above rating on the homepage but it’s to the “Left” of ratings on the archive page. How do I get the “Featured” badge to beside the rating on the homepage so that it doesn’t make that archive item taller than the rest?

Oh, crazy cool, now featured is in the sort options of the shortcode builder. It wasn’t there until I added it to the sort tab of the CPT, the universe really is coming together. And, I’m documenting it here as I come to these realizations, sorry again, lol. This is so different and much better than V1!

Have a look at your GD Archive Item template, and adjust as required.
The difference between the home and archive page, is 4-grid versus list view. If you change the view on the archive page, the result is the same.

This may be of interest too: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/featured-listings/#banner

    Thanks

Thanks Guust, I’m not sure I’m following you though. I have it showing 5 grid on both I think. But, really, I’m not concerned about grid view.
The featured badge is showing different on the homepage than it does on the archive page. How can I make it consistent?

Also, the link you shared to the banner showing over the image, I had already looked at that. The documentation appears to suggest editing the archive template, does this mean move shortcode? Does this mean in the “archive template” page? that’s what it says. However, Archive page doesn’t have a way to move badge over image. Does this mean “archive item” template? I tried moving the badge over the image in the shortcode and of course that alone doesn’t work so I added the CSS offered but that didn’t work either. I also looked at archive.php under the child theme supreme theme. Do they mean archive.php?

As for making the featured badge a banner, that may be a workaround but it wouldn’t really help if I ever want to make this new V2 badge feature work for something else (like a “new” badge).

I did get the banner to work, but not using the documentation. I have another site that is a V1 to V2 conversion showing the banner badge. I just copied it’s shortcode and used it and wahlah it worked:

    [gd_post_badge key=’featured’ condition=’is_not_empty’ badge=’FEATURED’ bg_color=’#1694e2′ txt_color=’#ffffff’ css_class=’gd-ab-left-angle gd-badge-shadow’]

Maybe the documentation could be simplified by saying something like:
to make a banner badge that shows over the image add css_class=’gd-ab-left-angle gd-badge-shadow’ in place of size=”extra-large” alignment=”right”

So, I’m good for now. Whenever I need to use the badge feature for something else though I imagine I’ll probably need help again because of the difference between how it was showing on the homepage and the archive page.
