I am not using this directory for profit, more just as an added benefit for our clients…but I would like the listings that have a specific featured image to be shown first. How can I accomplish this? dentistnearmereviews.com
Can I use the core ratings and set it myself without allowing other users to rate? We use another review system platform and don’t want conflicting data.
I have WP 4.5.3 and GeoDir 1.6.4 with Location Manager add-on.
July 5, 2016 at 9:52 pm #222205I see that you intend to have featured listings also to have more options than a not-featured listing. The simplest would be to use the Payments and Prices addon and add a featured package with a zero price.
You cannot override GD ratings, they are calculated based on visitor submissions.July 19, 2016 at 4:26 pm #230154Ok so I upgraded to the price/payments add on and selected certain featured listings but I still have other closer listings showing up before the featured ones being less than a mile different in distance. I have sorting options selected for featured, but I want that to be the default. The featured should ALWAYS show up first in search, and that’s what I was expecting from this add on and am not seeing what was promised.
For example, search “SILVER SPRING” and a basic listing shows up before the featured listing.
dentistnearmereviews.comJuly 19, 2016 at 5:52 pm #230199Hi Kathy,
if you search near a location, it will order listings by distance. You will need to enable the location autocompleter for the near field to achieve what you want.
For example, if you search near new york here: https://wpgeo.directory/hotels/
and you don’t select an option from the autocompleter, it will search near the center of NY and featured listings will not be on top of everything. In this case the 1st listing is featured, but is showing on top only because it’s the closer to the city center. Otherwise it would be impossible to sort by distance when a ZIP or street address are entered.
if you select New York (City or Region) from the autocompleter, it will sort them by featured.
Thanks
July 26, 2016 at 2:25 pm #233653Where is the autocompleter?
July 26, 2016 at 9:53 pm #233888The auto-completer is one of the features of the Advanced Search addon: https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/advanced-search-filters/
July 28, 2016 at 4:48 pm #235096This makes no sense. I need another add-on to do what the search is already doing. Seems impractical and not the best way to handle this. I’m quite frustrated that I even got this directory because I’m needing all these expensive add on’s to accomplish a small task that should just be part of the system. I feel bait and switched. I was so optimistic and would like to say good things about this plugin in review, but I’m just not seeing it.
July 28, 2016 at 4:52 pm #235100Right now, my archive pages do show up with featured first (but then continue to show ALL my listings, which is also not optimal) and the sort by featured drop down selector, why can’t this be achieved with a location search?
July 28, 2016 at 5:08 pm #235110This reply has been marked as private.July 28, 2016 at 5:16 pm #235112That’s because you could add a street address or zip, not just a city name and users would expect to get results near that Zip code or street address, not featured listings 1st if they are not the closest.
If you add the location switcher to your menu or any other area of your website and users select the location before searching, the results will be sorted by featured. Because you would be searching WITHIN the location and not NEAR the location. (same as with the autocompleter of the advanced search add-on).
Thank you
August 2, 2016 at 5:24 pm #239290Thank you, I do appreciate your time and everything that goes into building these plugins! To elaborate on the search, can you explain why this archive shows listings outside of Illinois? http://www.dentistnearmereviews.com/dentist/united-states/illinois-1/general-dentist/
Seems to show all featured first and then the “free” listings but there are other Illinois listings mixed in after other states.
Thank you!
August 2, 2016 at 8:24 pm #239418hi,
that’s because your current URL structure doesn’t include /united-states/, where did you get that link from?
This is the correct link: http://www.dentistnearmereviews.com/dentist/illinois-1/general-dentist/
Let us know,
Thank you
August 2, 2016 at 8:27 pm #239425Ok thank you! That makes sense. Google may have indexed that page before I changed the structure. It was found on a search for the dentist that shows up first in the list.
August 2, 2016 at 8:29 pm #239427Ok, in that case you should create a 301 redirect for those links. It will save you losing rankings.
Thanks
