GD thoughts

Hello dear support and developer team,

The longer I work with GD the more I admire your great work, your team and your company. The directory is so incredibly powerful and flexible. Your support is just as great.

I am aware that a program is constantly evolving. So please don’t misunderstand, the following is no criticism – just a suggestion. A few thoughts.

1. gd_pages
The detail page, the archive page and the archive item page can be individually created for each CPT. This is fantastic.

I would very much like this to be possible for the search page and location page as well. I simply can’t write a general instruction text that can describe the search page for normal CPTs and events at the same time. Of course I don’t know how much work that would be. But, I imagine that the thing has already been basically developed with the 3 gd_pages that are already customizable.

Especially if there are individual fields in a CPT, like the counties, I would have to be able to write different texts for the search page.

2. the administrative districts would be very desirable as a logical link between countries & regions and the cities by the way also with the locations. As standard field.

3. one more word about the CPTs. It took me a long time to understand them at all. This may be due to my other language, which may have a different meaning logic than English. And CPT is a very nice acronym.
I didn’t immediately recognize that in reality, logically it is about main categories or main areas. So I had to use the CPTs relatively late after a lot of work, they are great. But since I can’t transfer a category from one CPT to another, it was some work. The export and import function helped. That would also be desirable from a gd user’s point of view.
So in my opinion the display of a CPT area instead of “All” +cpt_name would be the display “Main category:” + cpt_name more logical and understandable. Especially for new users of your directory

4. This also affects the search. While the 2nd search field uses categories as heading, there is no heading in the leftmost search field where the CPT is selected. I think it would be more logical for both GD users and site visitors to choose a heading here in the way that main category or main area is selected.

5. that categories in CPT events are not translatable I already reported in another topic. That would be really important.

Please don’t see me as a know-it-all. It’s just a few thoughts that came up during the discussion with your great software. Maybe it helps you as professionals better to take the point of view of a beginner.

By the way, I have also registered as an affiliate with you. I haven’t activated it yet, because I can’t show my site as it should look at the end. But I am close to it. Then maybe I will also write a german manual for gd. I’ll let you know.
