I couldn’t figure out what was blowing out my sidebar and footer widgets, but I pinned it down.

Using DIVI theme from Elegant Themes (it that matters)

    Added Geo Directory

Now, a whole bunch of new widgets appear along with the GEO Directory options on the right.

When I SWITCH THEME to another theme and back, all my Sidebar/footer widgets are GONE. …not inactive, completely gone.

I tested by disabling Geo Directory, and my Sidebar and footer widgets remained.

Finally, after disabling Geo Directory, my inactive widgets returned

    Please advise.
    Thank you

It is normal that widgets disappear if you switch themes; all themes and plugins have their own widgets.
Disabling plugins should not affect any theme widgets, only the widgets for that plugin.

But I am not sure I understood the question correctly …

No, you did not understand the issue.

Isn’t is normal that when you switch themes, your widgets move to the inactive area below?

If yes, they do not…they dissapear entirely and I have to recreate them.

This does NOT happened when Geo Directory is disabled.

Somehow, later on, they eventually all come back into the Inactive area, I don’t understand that part at all, but it might be a day later.

    Hello,

if i remember correctly Divi can create dynamic widget areas which can have problems when switching themes as these are usually stored in order but because there are some dynamic ones it often breaks, it sounds like this is happening? Everything should be ok if you dont witch theme.

Switching themes is difficult to avoid on occasion, particularly when you are troubleshooting wordpress plugins as i am sure you would understand.

This is a common problem with themes that have dynamic widget areas, this is not a GD problem. Maybe something like this could help you: https://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-saver/

    Thanks,

Thanks. That plugin hasn’t been updated in 3 years so I would avoid that.

I will check this one out though
