Hello Support and Community,
where are the German .po files for Directory Starter and Supreme Directory themes or do I have to translate the themes from the scratch with the poedit as mentioned in the docs?
Do they contain strings for the frontend too?
Thank you for any hint and have a nice day
MariusJanuary 12, 2018 at 10:17 am #412455Hi Marius,
Could you tell us what are you trying to translate? Most of the texts are translated directly on the plugin https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/translate-core/ and we do have some translated language files that you can use here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/getting-translation-files/
Thanks!
January 12, 2018 at 5:01 pm #412501Hello @directoryfan,
Thanks for writing in with this question.
Theme translation files are in the languages folder of the theme. We do not currently store additional translations of the themes in other locations, and right now we do not have a German translation available, so yes, you would need to translate those strings you need from the files provided.
The theme file does contain frontend strings that are visible to visitors as well, yes, not just admin options. It is mostly frontend, in fact.
The files are quite small, though, compared to the GeoDirectory core plugin, though.

Thanks again for writing in today
January 13, 2018 at 1:27 pm #412634Thx Alex again for your support,
I found the files, OK, I will translate them. Why do you not have a language project for the themes, I could upload the German translations for others.
Thank you, Marius
January 13, 2018 at 1:38 pm #412639Hello,
it is because the files are very small, comparatively. You can certainly upload and share them here for the benefit of other members. Perhaps someone with a DE language site is reading this, too? 🙂
January 13, 2018 at 1:44 pm #412643Hy Alex,
both theme language files have the same name, respectively en_US.po , so how do I handle with the translation files of them? The .po files of theme and child theme have different strings, so I have to translate them both.
Should I :
1. add the strings of Directory Starter .po file to the strings of Supreme Directory .po file
2. translate and upload the .mo file in the language order of the Suprem Directory theme (what about on updates, do I get the files overridden?Greetings, Marius
January 13, 2018 at 1:54 pm #412649Hello,
The parent files go with the parent theme, child files with the child theme:
January 13, 2018 at 2:44 pm #412653Hy, so in this case I have to take care on updates of Directory Starter and Supreme Directory and consider to upload them again in the langauage directories, is this true?
Thank you for your support Alex
January 13, 2018 at 7:03 pm #412664Hello!
There are some good changes in WordPress 4.6 that allow us to place theme translations at:
/wp-content/languages/themes/Supreme-Directory-xx_XX.po/mo
/wp-content/languages/themes/my-theme-en_US.moThat will allow you to keep the files in place and safe from being overwritten during updates.
January 13, 2018 at 7:09 pm #412668Well, this is really cool, the translation topic is relative new for me, thank you so much for the hint, you could mention this in your docs too.
January 13, 2018 at 7:26 pm #412673Docs are updated with a note at the bottom:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/translating-themes/I will mark this as resolved, and feel free to open a new ticket if you have more questions
Thanks for writing in!
January 19, 2018 at 1:55 pm #413459Maybe someone will make use of the files, so here are the .po and .mo files for the languages/themes/directory-starter
January 19, 2018 at 1:56 pm #413460Well, I can not upload .po and .mo files, do I have an alternative?
January 20, 2018 at 10:06 am #413580Please add them to a zip file to upload.
The best place to translate the free themes is on WP here:

Stiofan
