Hi – where is the right place for GT to GD conversion issues? Is there already a group/thread on here for those of us trying to deal with the transition?
There are a lot of issues that need troubleshooting. Thanks,

May 2, 2016 at 12:42 pm #183681I set up a clone site yesterday and went through the tutorial. Here are the issues I have so far:
1) Events and Places that were in menus are no longer valid. They show up in red as invalid. I can see the events and places are listed in the right categories. Do we have to recreate all our menus?
2) Places and Events are no longer connected (ie, an event at a museum). The place doesn’t show the upcoming events and the event doesn’t show the place as the venue
3) Recurring Events – Custom recursion lists only the first date in the sidebar (some of which are already passed). No other dates are showing. Simple start and end dates seem to work, but systematic or custom recusion made it through the conversion
4) How/where does one log in or submit an event place? Nothing happens when I click on Upgrade Listing or My favorites or anything else (I am on a staging server) but I need to know the hard link to the login screen anyway
5) Are there custom php templates for the starter directory? Or is every single page/post/event/place, both detail and listing on single.php? Where is the coding for the Share/AddThis functionality?
6) The top search bar has disappeared: http://wpgeo.directory/starter/ (popular categories and search underneath). I’ve hardly made any changes at all to the theme except through the customizer, megamenu and played with a few widgets. Haven’t touched the theme out of admin. What widget or option would have made the search function disappear?
7) Is there documentation on the widgets? With screenshots of the different widget areas?
8) How do we keep the permalinks identical to our GT set up? I don’t want to change all my URLs so locations are added to the slugs? So these are the issues I noticed right away…haven’t dug any deeper yet.
Thanks,
May 2, 2016 at 1:06 pm #183687I’ll try and just answer each question below:
1. Yes menus will need to be recreated.
2. I will need to test this and get back to you.
3. Again i’ll need to test this, i though it all worked ok for me.
4. Under GD>permalinks you can set login page and add listing page, then these pages will be used for those functions, the login url is usually /gd-login/ which will be changed if you change the permalink of that page.
5. Details pages have their own template in the plugin, you can learn more about replacing hem here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/customizing-geodirectory-templates/
6. These are all just widgets, please look under the GD Home Top widget area.
7. Please see here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/widgets/ and here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-design/
8. How were your details page urls before? You can adjust the url sstructure under GD>PremalinksThanks,
Stiofan
May 2, 2016 at 1:26 pm #183690Thanks for researching. Obviously part of the conversion tool would have to include event dates and place/event connections.
#7) I still don’t understand where the Share/FB/Tweet buttons on the right here:
http://wpgeo.directory/starter/events/united-states/new-york/new-york/events/festival-concert-and-fireworks/?gde=2016-01-09The first two right column widgets. They seem to be in the template rather than in widgets?
May 2, 2016 at 1:30 pm #183692Yes sorry you can enable/disable those under GD>Design>Deails

May 2, 2016 at 3:49 pm #183772Thanks. Please keep in mind that for those of us with active sites, this conversion is days of work. Each time we start over there is process of cloning the current site (because new listings submitted, posts published/updated, etc), adding the plugins and themes, customizing the widgets, permalinks, etc. Child theme CSS is really the only thing that can moved via FTP.
So ideally, keeping the dev time as short as possible (maintaining old and new sites simultaneously) is important. Thanks.
May 2, 2016 at 9:17 pm #183989Adding On:
Just noticed that no Category Top Descriptions came through.
Between those, menus, custom sidebars not importing, etc – this is at least one full week of work to transition, requiring a way to see both old and new sites. Anything that can be done to keep settings, event dates/times, place/event connections, etc from GT to GD would be greatly appreciated.
May 2, 2016 at 10:27 pm #184046How do we recreate the Blog page (not on the homepage, it’s a separate page). There are no posts on my dev blog page after the conversion. Thanks.
May 2, 2016 at 11:22 pm #184052About the login/listings:
I can only see my dev server if I’m logged in but need to know the URL of the login/reg page. It would be the equivalent of GT: domain.com/?ptype=login&page1=sign_up. What is the same in GD?
I found this page: domain.com/add-listing – but I can’t find the equivalent for submitting an event. I only see submit place.
Thanks,
May 3, 2016 at 1:12 pm #1842101) Where is the page to submit events? I only see an option to add a listing (place)
2) How do we set the blog template (in GT there is a page template for blog). It is not the home page but I need a blog page
3) Adding on the GT to GD conversion – try to include Category Top Descriptions (the less manual work in converting, obviously, the better).
4) How do we get Sidebars on pages/posts? They are all full width.
4) How do we get Breadcrumbs on pages/posts?Thanks
May 3, 2016 at 1:35 pm #184213Also – I just noticed. Custom Recursions did seem to come through during the conversion. when I look at a listings page, the events seem to be listed correctly. But, in the side widget on the detail page, the dates are not correct. And the place/event connection is definitely gone.
May 4, 2016 at 7:47 pm #184913What’s the ETA on an updated conversion tool?
May 6, 2016 at 5:26 pm #185693It might be helpful to have a new category for GT to GD conversion issues. I see a lot of people are having them. But here I’d like to summarize where we are so far:
Conversion Tool:
converts events and placesPending Stiofan/Paolo (what will be fixed and what will we have to do manually?):
Connection between places & events gone
Custom Recursions correct on listings page, but not on side widget on event detail page. shows only first recurrence
Category top descriptions missing
Event dates – randomly missing on GD widgets
Package Features – for example, allow recurring events on Package X did not convert over
Clear explanation of Login, Add Event, Add Business (vs GT way of offering Add Event/Biz on one page).Must update manually:
Permalink Settings
Widgets
Sidebars
Notification Emails
Menus (event and place post types)
Reset Blog PageGT to GD Theme Changes:
Lose breadcrumbs, sidebars and widgets on all posts/pagesHelpful Conversion Tools:
