o, it looks like my partner Wil initiated a restore from a backup that I did last night :/ this was a mistake. Now everything is gone. both sites… and when I try to reach the main site, it redirects me to the /GD site and gives ma an error… This is not good. anyway to get it back?

[email protected]September 12, 2017 at 1:09 pm #395315Stand by, we are on the phone with Host Gator to see if they can revert back to this morning before Wil tried to restore the site…
On another note, do we have to do 301 redirects still? and how do we go about doing this once the site is back to where it needs to be?

So we are working with Hostgator to have the site restored because we had a huge issue today with an accidental Dropbox backup that took the site down. We are now back to what it looked like before you changed it but at this point we do not have the content there when you view places in the backend or if you click on any listing on the front page of http://www.lookct.com – could you please have a look and possible bring the site back to what you had it to. This has been a huge issue for me and I’ve been on the phone for over 13 hours with Hostgator trying to restore to what you did for us but they have been unsuccessful. Now the site looks like it did before you worked on it but has no content as of now. I am happy to offer a payment for your help because this has been a nightmare and we need it fixed urgently. Please let me know what you think can be done and if you’d be so kind to get the site back up for us. Thank you so much and please let me know what I would owe you for this help since you already were kind enough to do it yesterday for us.
Thank you,
Wil and Mark

September 13, 2017 at 2:14 pm #395526Hi Kiran,
We see you have started to bring it back for us. Thank you so much!
We used the supreme theme and would like LookCT.com to look like LookNY.com which is completed.
What I don’t see on LookCT is our terms and conditions anymore though…could you see if that is still there to add on the bottom as we had it? I’ve attached screen shot of old site to see its on the bottom left.
Also as far as redirects to the URL’s we had so that Google searches pull up the proper listings, is that easy to do?
For example, if you type in Google “European hair salon Greenwich Ct” you’ll see LookCT number 1 on searches but that link will not take you to the listing…I assume these are the redirects we need correct?
Thank you for your help with this I would like to compensate you for taking the time to help us out. We appreciate it a great deal

September 13, 2017 at 2:21 pm #395529Also on the latest places on the bottom front page the only listing that works is Post Parkway Services…all the others like Valleg roofing and franchescas spa salon do not seem to work
Thank you again!

I have enabled supreme theme. check now it looks like same as LookNY.com. You have to upload new logo for LookCT.com because previous logo has white background and it doesn not looks good on supreme theme. What I don’t see on LookCT is our terms and conditions anymore though…could you see if that is still there to add on the bottom as we had it? I’ve attached screen shot of old site to see its on the bottom left.

Yes this requires redirects as google has cached pages. You can submit new sitemap at the Google via Yoast SEO plugin. Also on the latest places on the bottom front page the only listing that works is Post Parkway Services…all the others like Valleg roofing and franchescas spa salon do not seem to work
See https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/help-with-migration/#post-395267 i already told early that some places has not any category assigned. Listings which ahs not any categories assigned may shows page not found. Thanks,
KiranSeptember 14, 2017 at 11:59 am #395697Hi Kiran,
Thank you so muh for your help with this.
So I be clear and help us understand what is left for us to do, we need
1. Manually update categories for each listing
2. Add new logo and background image on the top like we have for LookNY.com
3. Create redirects for all the urls so when you search on Google for example “European hair salon Greenwich Ct” the LookCT.com website that shows up will redirect to that organic listing that shows up on Google
We want to be sure this continues to work the same way because this is our business and we’ve been working on this for over 4 years
Also, we understand the geotheme was not supported but can we rest easy knowing the GD plugin will be supported so this doesn’t happen to us again in the future?
Thank you for all of your help! I’d like to send you something for your time if that’s ok.
Warm regards,
Wilson & Mark
September 14, 2017 at 1:02 pm #395703One more question since the SEO we have on Google is the most important thing we need fixed right now…
Should we start re-directs so that the listings that appear on Google link properly to the LookCT.com site OR should the categories for each listing be added first?
We desperately need the Google listings to all work…for example if you search on Google “European hair salon Greenwich CT” or “international beer Greenwich Ct” or “excavation supplies Monroe Ct” you’ll see LookCT.com very high up in Google searches…this is what we need to work most when people click on the LookCT.com site with these Google searches. This is what our customers are paying for and this is a huge concern for us.
What do you think we do first, categories or fix this issue with Google searches which is the SEO we offer?
Is fixing this issue with re-directs to the proper page easy?
Thanks again Kiran,
You’ve been a tremendous help. Thank you
September 14, 2017 at 1:58 pm #395712Hi Look,
You have to fix categories missing problem first. Assign the categories to listing which ahve not any category yet.
With GD now urls are changed you can redirect older urls to new urls. check this plugin doing same job:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/
Or you can use your own method if you have for redirection.Kiran
September 14, 2017 at 8:57 pm #395791Hi guys, im sure you have a million things to do. We are almost done fixing all the issues.
2 questions:
The 301 redirects are next. I wish we knew a little more about how this will work? By running the plugin you suggested, will all my listings register with google and continue to rank with the search engine as they always did? Im not sure how this all works…
Categories best practices… Our map is showing tons of categories… (which we created at some point) Im not sure if this looks right on the map… is there a way for only certain categories to be listed in the map area, just like across the top search area… just so it doesnt look messy???
Thank you!!!

Thank you for all of the guidance. I noticed the 5 popular categories on the home page under the search bar are the main home page categories but my question is
1. should a listing have more than one category assigned to it?
2. if a category assigned to a listing is not on the 5 popular categories listed on the homepage is that a good idea to do for any reason? In other words a pizzeria that is also a restaurant – should it have FOOD as main popular assigned home page category but also have pizza and restaurant as 2 additional categories assigned to it? Is there a reason to create more sub categories or should we just clean up all the categories and have each listing fall under one of the 5 main home page categories?
Thank you again
