I downloaded and used Open Office.
I have Excel on my workstation and Excel is the default program to open a spread sheet so I configured the headers and input data and saved as Text CSV(.csv) (*.csv).
When I go to import the Open Office doc the only icon I see is the excel icon. There is no Open Office icon. So how do I select Open Office to import?
I did select the excel icon and “nothing” happens at all.
This just does not make sense. I created the CPT fields, downloaded it and used it as a template. I copied and pasted the database spread sheets data into the proper columns.
Not even some / any indication as to why it is not working. I used two different browers.. What is the problem?

As soon you use Excel to create or save the file, the file will be useless. Excel just thinks it is smarter than its users, and that leads to all sorts of trouble.
If you download the CSV file from your admin, only open it using Open Office.
Start Open Office, and navigate to the saved file.September 9, 2015 at 3:11 am #52516Ok.. I get a zip file and open it with a unzip tool. (I purchased a database of contractors)
The unzip tool places the data in to what? Excel. Even if I do not “open” the unzipped excel file it is there.
Are you saying to use the unzip tool and select OpenOffice to unzip it? (tried it and I do not see a way for OO to unzip a zip file.
September 9, 2015 at 3:21 am #52517I have an OO spread sheet all defined. How do I save it as an text OO.csv. The Windows machine default spread sheet is excel.
When I open the OO spread sheet it looks just fine.
September 9, 2015 at 3:43 am #52518Wow.. I got a work thru from OpenOffice. Wow.. but even then it failed. Sample .csv file attadhed.
Please do not tell me I am “required” to know the latitude and longitude of a purchase database list in order for this to upload.
Also, if the State is abbreviated, for example CA for California will the abbreviation cause the import to fail?
September 9, 2015 at 1:27 pm #52551Unzip the file, that will place it somewhere.
Then open OpenOffice and navigate to the file to open. The problem with Excel is not what you see, but what you don’t see.
Step by step:
1. Download the sample CSV or export a CSV from your GD site.
2. Open OO
3. Navigate to the downloaded file.
4. adjust as required, and save. When asked to save as ODS, say no.The attached CSV file is not correcty formatted, follow the steps above.
If you want the listings to import and appear on the map, you will need lat and lng. There is a bulk tool for that:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-export/#tipsHaving CA instead of California will not fail the import, but it will create a region called “CA” meaning you will end up with two regions: “CA” and “California”. So you should replace all “CA”s with California.
