Hello – I know import/export has been a bug in WordPress for a while now and I was hoping their most recent update would fix the issue, but it hasn’t. I was about to give up on even trying to wait for a fix but then I received the below notice on my website today.

GeoDirectory does not have access to your filesystem, thing like import/export will not work. Please define your details in wp-config.php as explained here http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#WordPress_Upgrade_Constants

Is there a way to either explain to us non-coders in simple terms what we need to do to fix this import/export issue or maybe integrate what they’ve provided on the link to an update to the core plugin?

It would be great if import/export was actually able to work, as one of my sites is in a holding pattern until it does. Thank you.

    – Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy,

I believe you’re facing the issue as mentioned here https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/this-type-of-file-is-not-allowed-for-security-reasons/#post-463846 . Could you try the fix and see if it helps? If not, share your WP admin access here in private reply and we’ll check on it.

    Thanks!

    Hi Kor –

Downloading the plugin seemed to do the trick. I was able to simply download the export CSV files from one site and directly import those CSV files into the other site, without needing to put the CSV files into OpenOffice first.

Although most of the information transferred over, the photos in the location galleries didn’t transfer over with the locations, nor did the featured image. I tried to do it with my FTP client but to no avail.

The image in the body of the post transferred over though. I believe that is due to the fact that the image in the body has an actual URL. Could future GeoDirectory updates ensure that all images uploaded to a locations gallery have an actual URL, rather than it just being part of a “photo player”? That might help with future import/export issues.

Also, is it fine to continue to keep the plugin active on the site, or do I need to remove it at some point? If removing it is something that needs to be done when a WordPress update to fix the CSV import/export problem happens in the future, will you let us know?

    Thanks for your assistance.

If information is missing, it could be due to a mismatch between the CSVs.
You should export listings from the target site and see if the CSV columns match.

GDV2 has significant upgrades for importing listings, including fetching images from a URL in the CSV. For V1 you will need to load the images by FTP.

Go ahead and remove the plugin now, and add it back if you need it again.

Ok. I’ll get GDV2 and see if that does the trick. Thanks.
