“The parent theme could not be found. You will need to install the parent theme, genesis, before you can use this child theme.”
I receive this error while trying to install any child theme.
I have framework installed. “GeoDirectory_framework_1.2.5” and the folder, by default was named “GeoDirectory_framework”
There was an answer here https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/genesis-framework-installed-bold-child-theme-still-not-working/#post-126941
However you do not have specifics on what was changed. Can you please either fix the the style sheet and upload the new version, or let us know what changes to which file need to take place.
If there is another fix, please let me know that as well.
Thank you very much!
April 30, 2016 at 1:48 am #182515For a Genesis child theme you need Genesis framework.
Only GDF child themes will work with the GDFramework.Let us know if that answers your question.
May 1, 2016 at 4:51 pm #183232You are correct. That has been done. However if you look at the link posted Guust said there was an issue with the folder renamed.
I’m letting you know that by default the GDF framework was installed that way. (Please re read my first post)Can you please either fix the the style sheet and upload the new version, or let us know what changes to which file need to take place.
Please let me know where in the syle sheet I need to make changes, or can you please upload a new version that installed the GDF framework correctly.
Below is the post I linked for clarity.
Thank you

Post count: 9942You had renamed the “genesis” folder to “Genesis-Framework”.
I changed the reference in the stylesheet of the child theme.
Please check now.May 2, 2016 at 12:12 am #183426Only that user had re-named his genesis folder, that folder will only be renamed if somebody actually does that.
What your problem is that you are trying to use a Genesis child theme with another parent theme.
The message is telling you that You will need to install the parent theme, genesis, before you can use this child theme. It is not telling you to install GDF, but genesis. What child theme are you trying to install?
May 3, 2016 at 1:48 am #184067I’m trying to install the Geo Bold.
I have attached a screen shot of the folder naming convention. And of the themes section of my site.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
May 3, 2016 at 3:45 pm #184336Hi,
GeoBold is a child theme of Genesis. Not GDF. You must have Genesis installed too: http://my.studiopress.com/themes/genesis/
Thank you
May 4, 2016 at 2:03 am #184618OK That is good to know. I was not aware that you could pay for the membership here but also have to pay for another theme else where.
You would think you would just up the membership to include the themes you need. It would make sense to allow your customers the ability to use what they have paid for.
Since we are members are there any discounts to the Genesis framework? An extra $60 fee was not expected.
Thanks again.
May 4, 2016 at 7:35 am #184655On the themes page at https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/category/themes/ it is explained which themes are included and which ones are child themes for another theme.
For example, your membership includes Whoop, Directory Starter and GDF framework, and the child themes for these.
You can use any of these at no extra cost.Sorry if that is confusing, and discounts for third party software are not included.
