I am preparing to do my first import using Geo Directory and have a few questions.
1. When using WP All Import you are able to “map” the CSV column by dragging and inserting a column shortcode. I am assuming that when importing with the GeoDirectory import that you don’t do this. But instead just label the CSV columns and upload, Is this correct?
2. When using WP all Import it is easy to customize the Content area using those column shortcodes. For example, I could put in a sentence such as “Enjoy dining at {name[1]} in {city[1]} {state[1]} and let them know that you found their listing on our website.”
Is it possible to use shortcodes when using the GD import?
3. or will I have to do a second import using WP All Import in order to accomplish this in Item #2?
Thanks
October 6, 2019 at 8:34 pm #5118231. The simplest way is to export an existing listing using GD > Settings > Import/Export.
That gives you the correct format to import again.2+3. You cannot use shortcodes in GD custom fields. Allowing shortcodes in custom fields is a security risk.
Thanks
October 6, 2019 at 10:17 pm #5118271. I got that but that really wasn’t my question, my question really was “just label the CSV columns and upload, Is this correct?”
2. Sorry but that doesn’t make sense. I have been importing listing with WP All Import for a long time. What I called Shortcodes are just the column headings. I am NOT trying to use %%gdshortcodes%%. I am trying to import and use unique content for each listing without having to manually edit hundreds of listings.
But the GeoDirectory import function is something that I have not used so trying to understand how to do the same type of thing that I was doing with WP All Import but with the GD upload.
I would use the WP All Import but there are missing GD fields such as address, city, state etc.
October 7, 2019 at 5:57 am #511846Hello,
1.there is a recommended process for using GD import:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/#recommended
https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/import-question-on-hours-of-operation/#post-500715To summarize, add a complete listing to the site, export, then merge your data into the exported file being careful to preserve column order and headers.
For WP All Import we have the GeoDirectory addon for WP All Import. You will need that if you want to use WP All Import with GeoDirectory. Once you have that installed you can see a list of all the fields on the page when you begin a new import. It should not be missing any fields. Please share WP Admin access to the site so we can check on it if you think you have encountered a bug.
2.
GD does not have any tag replacement functions in the import functionality. I will take it up as a suggestion for the developers to consider for future versions.

Thanks for this confirmation.1. There are no fields missing that I know of in the GD import. I haven’t imported anything yet so I don’t know for sure. I was speaking of when trying to use WP All Import.
The reason is that the Directory Themes that I have recently used, they didn’t have a separate place in their theme to upload….you used WP All Import functions and they added their CPT’s to it directly. So I expected the same setup with GD but of course, that is not the case.
2. see next private post for an example
3. I just tried to upload a test CSV and am getting an error. See screenshot attached.
“Array( [error] => Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.)x”
I am not sure why I am getting this error. Any Suggestions? Could it be my security plugin or another setting?

I can see that it loaded the CSV but I am NOT seeing an import option after uploading the test file.
How do I import this text file?
October 7, 2019 at 9:16 am #511897You should get a button there.
If not, then please post your URL and WP Admin details in private reply and we will have a look. Thanks
October 7, 2019 at 9:24 am #511900Actually I went back to WP All Import and I see that almost all of the Geo Directory fields are now there. But there are some missing Fields.
Missing Fields:
street
city
region
country
zip
post_type
claimedIf these fields could be added to the settings in WP All Import this would fix the issues that I am having.

Okay I see. I will correct that header row.
1. So even if these are blank just make sure that all header rows are added, right?
2. Do they have to be in the exact order?
3. Regarding Question #2…. great that I can do this… but where do I do this. Can I put this in the post_content of the CSV?
October 7, 2019 at 10:38 am #5119181. Yes, some fields can stay blank but you need the columns.
Some fields MUST be populated, for example street, region and country, category, user ID etc.2. Yes, highly recommended.
3. No only when using WP All Import.
It just converts the post content based on other fields. But you can do that in a CSV file too, just write a spreadsheet formula to use data from another column, for example:
="Best food in "&N2&" in "&P2&"."
If cell N2 has the city and P2 has the country, then the result will be “Best food in Paris in France” for example.
Thanks
