    Hi there!

I’m about to set up a directory guide. I’m doing this in Denmark which mainly consist of three islands (or more correctly: two islands and a peninsula, but never mind).

I want to divide the places in theese three parts/islands of the country. It’s not like cities but areas/islands.

I’m wondering if I just should divide in three main categories and then have some sub categories in each of them. Or should I buy the Locations Manager addon for this? What is the benefit by having the plugin instead of just using categories?

And is it possible to make areas in the Location Manager addon when it is not a village/town/city?

    Greetings,
    Peter

You will need the Location Manager addon, or you will not be able to add listings in more than one city.
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/definitions/#location

Using categories does not work for the maps. The maps and addresses need to follow the Google map API or the OSM map API for them to work. Therefore every “location” must be like :city > region > country”.

    Thanks

    Hi again,

Sorry for the late reply. I have looked at the Location Manager addon, and I have a question for it regarding my issue:

Is it possible to make a kind of a “location group”. In my case, I want to create a location which consist of more than one location. Let me explain:

Denmark consist of many “kommuner” (I think the best English word is municipality) – see the attached image. These “kommuner” is registered in the Google Maps API. However, I want to make a “location group” for whole island. To do so, I could combine these “kommuner” so they together covers the specific island.

Does it makes sense? Is it possible with the Location Manager?

It is possible to manage custom locations with Location Manager.

The way you do it is to create your custom city location, and then merge other cities into that custom location.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/location-manager/#edit

One of the issues with this approach is that the custom location is not returned by the map API, so, new listings will may be located in previously merged cities. For this reason custom locations is not a common solution. We do have plans to create an addon to make it easier to manage custom locations but we don’t have a timeline for that.

    Hi Alex,

    Thanks for your reply.

I am not planning to give all users the opportunity to add listings. So I do not think that will be a big issue in my case.

But if two citites are created/duplicated then I can just merge again. Is that true?
