I am a paying subscriber for your add one. However, the plugin keeps updating to v2, at which point my layout disintegrates, the page links no longer work, and the places disappear! It is causing major disruption to my work and I end up having to do a cull system restore…….HELP!!!
May 10, 2019 at 1:55 pm #485618Hi Simon Harrison,
Thanks for your post. Kindly share your Website WP admin access here in private reply and we’ll check what’s going on.
Thanks!
May 10, 2019 at 2:02 pm #485620Hello,
GD and WP will not automatically install updates without some ‘help’. We have only seen this 3 times so far, but in each case there was a setting in the host panel that was being used to automatically install updates. I recommend you check with your host about that, or any 3rd party services you may be using to manage the site. API based services or others with access to WP through the host have been the cause of this in 100% of the other cases.
If you need help to track it down please provide CPanel access in a private reply, in addition to WP Admin credentials.
Thanks

London Business Directory without disrupting the whole site?May 11, 2019 at 3:20 am #485759Hi,
first turn off auto updates from your host so you can do the conversion on your own time.
We have notes here about how to upgrade.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/upgrade-from-gdv1/
Of note is the recommendation to perform the update on a staging site where you can address the features you want in your own time.
May 24, 2019 at 2:13 pm #488643Thanks…I have added the line to disable automatic updates…however, despite my best efforts, I cannot update to version 2 without losing alot of listings and page structure. I end up having to restore my site and go back to version 1…it’s very disappointing

If you have any questions about it in particular just let us know.
May 25, 2019 at 4:04 pm #488906Sorry to say this, but are you not reading the notes above?
Yes, I have disabled the automatic updates, but you asked me to set up a staging for you:
“I am sure. If you have the conversion setup on a staging server we can take a look, just share the info:”
I set up the staging site and sent you the admin credentials.
I was hoping that you would do as you say, and solve the problem, but now you say to check the notes again? After I already discussed this with you? Wow!! I have to assume that you just don’t want to resolve this/ or didn’t read the notes.
Look, I was expecting good support, after all I am a paying customer. Please, please, please can you actually look at the staging site and find out why I am losing everything when I upgrade?
This is getting really frustrating going around in circles, and really poor service
May 25, 2019 at 4:26 pm #488915When you run the conversion, if there is a problem, write back and point it out and we will help. Right now the site you linked hasn’t been upgraded or converted yet.
May 26, 2019 at 5:14 am #488956As mentioned, I have followed each step of the conversion. As mentioned previously, the site is now completely broken. I have twice provided you admin credentials, but, to the best of my knowledge, you have not used them at all.
I have provided you with the admin credentials above, but at this point have received no help at all.
Can you please now do as you promised to do and help fix it? To remind you, this is what you said:
“I am sure. If you have the conversion setup on a staging server we can take a look, just share the info:
“WordPress Credentials
WP Admin Login URL:
WP Admin Username:
WP Admin Password:”It would be great if you could actually do this now, or, if helping is not a priority, please pass me to someone who can help?
May 26, 2019 at 7:08 am #488968– You have not supplied FTP. We cannot do anything on the site without FTP or CPanel.
– You said you had run the conversion, twice, but the site has not been upgraded or converted. Please convert it and report the issues you find on the site. Then we can advise you on how to fix.GDV2 upgrade is a major version upgrade and requires some work on your part. The notes about the scope of that work are here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/upgrade-from-gdv1/
To be clear, you will at least need to rearrange widgets and perhaps make a new front page, but we have done our best to make that as easy as possible by providing a setup wizard, and even a copy paste front page, all linked from here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/getting-started/
