Map Marker Identification

    Hi All

    I am trying to work out the best way to make my map markers identifiable and meaningful. I have about 70 categories and have decided to use a numbering system with the map marker icons, say 1 – 70. The problem is the numbering is not readily available and visible on the key / legend in the map area. What I mean by this is an icon may be showing #17 but you cannot readily identify what this relates to…you have to go searching in the key / legend for it and having 70 or so may mean scrolling down etc..very off-putting. It would be good if when you drill down to a certain region or city that the legend only shows the details of the map markers showing on the map. Is this possible at all and if so how do you get it to work. Or, is there a better way to id the markers. If all else fails I will probably forget trying to id the markers and just make them all one of a kind red. Cheers Kerrin

    Hi Kerrin,

    Thanks for your post. Sorry, I’m not getting this. Could you possibly show us some examples of what you’re trying to achieve there? I’d like you to know that you can always use this option “Select category to untick by default on map” in GD > Design > Map https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-design/#map to filter what to display on the map. Since you’ve so many categories, you can probably sort it using the “Custom Post Types” addon https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/custom-post-types/

    I think I worked it out…widgets, G Map home page, click on Map Auto Zoom. This will remove all irrelevant categories when you drill down to a certain region, city etc.

    Hi Kor

    I understand the category to untick option but thats not the problem. When I drill down to a certain location such as a country, region or city I only want the categories that relate to that area to show in the key / legend.

    following on from your question, although I have 70 categories they all fit under the one CPT.
