Taking a step back.
Originally when I built out the site many years ago in the early days of GD, I went with Enfold. Though live, the site went back-burner for a few years mostly just sitting dormant.
When I circled back this summer, in a position to once again take up the torch with even more focus, seeing V2 and all the improvements, I decided that it would be best to just rebuild, and in doing so, also find a more dedicated and simpler foundation.
Liking the look of Listimia, made the purchase and have been working with it. One of the challenges though is there is still the potential issue of… is it a GD bug/issue, or Listimia, when issues come up. Is everyone in lock step, or potential trip ups? Does one inadvertently break the other as changes are made?
Coming across an issue that was previously resolved, I’m slowing once again, and wondering if combining GD with another theme is just more challenge than I want to take on.
So with that in mind…
In working with Listimia now, I’ve also found there are mostly a few unique visual formats that I’m most interested in… such as the Archive Item layout with text over images, and the Details header with hero image and text overlay, the category icon links, etc…. with the rest being somewhat more basic.
All of which, I assume could be replicated, though sadly I probably no longer have the knowledge to do that myself anymore.
The question then to the GD gods…
What would be the… relatively… simplest and most flexible GD foundation theme to build off of?
GD Starter?
GD Framework?
Supreme? (though Supreme is itself a child of Starter)Any recs will be greatly appreciated here.
After years of this just sitting, I was very energized this summer at seeing all the progress that came about in V2 (a very well deserved hearty hip hip hurrah to the team) since the eons ago that I “lived and breathed” daily within these forums. I know there will always be improvements to be made and bugs to be eradicated, but once again find the wind depleting from my sails as struggle to get back up and running.
Cheers
November 15, 2019 at 10:01 pm #517348A lot of people go with Supreme or Whoop to keep things simple. We are happy to help with hiding items from the display but when you are ready to strike out and create new features, if you don’t want to use code then a theme that comes with a builder, or going with an advanced builder can be helpful.

BTW What do you guys think about Elementor and their Hello theme – is this a good combination to use?November 16, 2019 at 11:31 am #517452GD Shortcodes work with both page builders and advanced builders. The theme is really up to you, and it definitely helps to try the builders. The lite versions are usually free to try. Spend 10 minutes with each and choose the one you like using better.
November 18, 2019 at 8:51 pm #517697Thanks.
I may revisit Supreme then, which was the direction I was going down before and then I became enamored with the look of Listimia.
But perhaps I can pull in or come up with a similar visual in Supreme and keep everything tighter to the code.
Cheers
