Hello, I am working on my first wordpress site, I have some dev experience(html/css, js, python) but this is my first wordpress launch. I have a few questions. I’m not sure if any of these issues are stemming from the fact that I’m using the ‘ocean’ WP theme which I had already started building my site on.

I have set my default location as Philadelphia, PA, but for some reason when I access the page my map is showing the South Pacific. Ultimately I would like the map to default to wherever the viewer is logged in from. I have installed and activated the ‘Location Manager’ plugin but am not sure how to use it, I’m not sure if this would allow me to do that.

I also have the Dummy Data installed and while the listings are showing up there are no icons populating on the map.

Another thing that I would like to do is customize the submission form, especially making it easier for users to ‘add listing’. I don’t want to require users to provide a lat/long, I would like if they could add by address or by place name (e.g. ‘Monserrate, Bogota). I’m not sure how difficult this would be to implement.

A third question I have is do I need to install buddypress and the buddypress plugin in order to have users be able to register/post/rate or is that just for if I want more of a social network?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

welcome to GeoDirectory and our forum, we are glad you are here.

Once your map is working, it will be possible for users to drag a pin, and the address will be fetched by lookup from the Map API of your choice.

Many problems with maps these days come from the billing setup. Do triple check to make sure you have associated an active billing account with the Google API key you are using. You can use OSM as a temporary measure to ‘make it go’ until you get Google setup. Adjust the Map API provider at:

GD – Design – Map – Load Map API – OpenStreetMap

It sounds like some of your listings might not have categories assigned. Check the all to make sure the address is complete, categories are assigned and that map icons area assigned to the categories.

We can check your settings for you, just make a private reply and include your site URL and WP Admin credentials; only the team can read private replies.

    1. I turned your caching off: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/known-issues/#cacheplugins

    2. Review your listings and add addresses by dragging the marker or adding an address and clicking “set on map”. Unless listings have data in the address fields, the lat and lng will not be set and the listing cannot show on the maps.

    3. I can’t find anything wrong with your registration setup.
Add the GD Login widget to allow submissions.

    4. There is no requirement to add lat and lng when adding a listing. You can hide that setting at GD > Place Settings > Address custom field >

    5. You don’t need Buddypress, GD will work fine without it. But you can use it or you can use UsersWP: https://userswp.io/
Both plugins will give your users a better dashboard experience and UsersWP has more registration options.

    Thanks
