“Those are not singles. They are archives.”
Can somebody from GD staff who has the knowledge or the patience reply with how one can use Elementor to customize Archives then?April 25, 2019 at 11:43 pm #482930(I made a tutorial but I don’t know if this is right)
How to customize GD Archive using elementor
Create a new Archive Template.
Elementor > New Template > Type = Archive > Name = GD Archive Template,
Then choose a blank template.Open page GD Archive in edit mode on WordPress. Note how it has 6 shortcodes:
[gd_notifications] [gd_category_description] [gd_search] [gd_loop_actions] [gd_loop layout=1] [gd_loop_paging]
(see attached picture)Create the same structure on Elementor. On the GD Archive Template you just created, drag the respective widgets
GD > Notifications
GD > Category Description
GD > Search
GD > Loop Actions
GD > Loop
GD > Paging
(see attached picture)Hit Save. Then you’ll need to chose the Display Options. Select Include > Places Archive, then click Add Condition, and Include > Place Tags > All, click Add Conditions one last time, and Include > Place Categories > All.
Hit save and you’re done with GD Archive.
I don’t know how to proceed with the rest of the pages.
Questions:
1. GD Archive Item. What post type is it? What do I select as Display condition on Elementor?
2. GD Details. What post type is it? What do I select as Display condition on Elementor?
3. I am assuming Add Listing and Location are just pages, so I can select Display Condition > pages > Add Listing and Location. Is this correct? If not, can you please reply with the correct choices instead of just pointing out they are wrong.
4. Do I need to change anything on GeoDirectory > Settings > Pages? If I do, please be specific. Thanks for the support. I would appreciate if someone other than Alex could take the time to reply.
April 26, 2019 at 2:10 am #4829421. GD Archive Item. What post type is it? What do I select as Display condition on Elementor?
When GD is installed, there is one GD Archive page template installed. However, each CPT can have a different template.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/templates/archive/
With a theme builder there is an advantage that it is possible to make a different layout for each Archive, or each type of archive (cpt, category, tags…or even for individual categories, places, etc).
For a theme builder, if you are making the archive layout for “Places”, then create the layout as an Archive and apply it to Places archive. You can set it to “all” or make a different layout for category and tags.
2. GD Details. What post type is it? What do I select as Display condition on Elementor?
When GD is installed, there is one GD Detail page template installed. However, each CPT can have a different template.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/templates/details/
For a theme builder, if you are making the Detail layout for “Places”, then create the layout as a Single and apply it to Places single. You can set it to “all” or make a different layout for each individual place.
3. I am assuming Add Listing and Location are just pages, so I can select Display Condition > pages > Add Listing and Location. Is this correct? If not, can you please reply with the correct choices instead of just pointing out they are wrong.
Location and Add Listing are indeed just WP pages, not templates, so theme builder settings are not needed and should not be used. Instead, locate the WP Page, then click “Edit with …” and just use the page builder on the page.
4. Do I need to change anything on GeoDirectory > Settings > Pages? If I do, please be specific.
No.

April 26, 2019 at 3:41 am #482953Alex,
Thank you for the more detailed response.1. The display condition for GD Archive is “Places Archive”, but what is the display condition for the GD Archive Item template?
2. On this page, it says “Override the GD Search template – Archive Layout applied to Search – this will also override the WP site search at the same time.”. Is there a way to make a search template just for the Directory? Because searching for pages within a site is different than searching for listings within the directory.
Thanks.
April 26, 2019 at 4:59 am #4829761. I will your question for the developers to clarify that.
2. No, not at this time.April 26, 2019 at 5:31 am #482991Thank you.
April 26, 2019 at 9:48 am #483024Hello,
1. It depends on how you setup the Archive, if you are using the Elementor post archives then that replaces the gd_loop so you would not need the GD Archive item. If you are using the gd_loop then you can just edit the GD Archive Item page, either as normal or with Elementor but it is not confined to the Archive layout when editing so you don’t get a full visual representation when editing, just placeholders.
2. We need Elementor to add a hook so we can differentiate between post_types, i’m working on this but its a slow process.
Thanks,
Stiofan
April 26, 2019 at 4:56 pm #483096Hi Stiofan,
I assume your reply made sense to you and everyone who is familiar with your plugin, but I have no idea what you’re talking about.
> It depends on how you setup the Archive
setup the archive?
> if you are using the Elementor post archives
what?
> that replaces the gd_loop so you would not need the GD Archive item
what?
> If you are using the gd_loop then you can just edit the GD Archive Item page
what?
> it is not confined to the Archive layout when editing so you don’t get a full visual representation when editing
what?2. Thanks for looking into it.
April 27, 2019 at 5:33 pm #483206To edit the Archive item template, use the page builder, as opposed to the theme builder.
