Using the Starter theme
Installed the dummy dataI have manually added entries and imported some.
Manually deleted some entries then used the “Dummy data” insert/remove option.
The default GD “Popular Post” Popular categories widget show 9 Restaurants at
http://www.aroundealing.co.uk/location/southall/
This is incorrect.
Search on this page for “Restaurants” returns 71 Restaurant – which is correct.I have used GD Tools to refresh the location counts. No Affect.
Please advise.July 23, 2016 at 12:21 pm #232341Can you post your WP admin details in a private reply, so we can investigate. Thanks.

I run the tool in GeoDirectory >> Gd Tools >> Location category counts : Refresh the category counts for each location (can take time on large sites)
Looks like it is correct now.
We don’t run that after every update that you make, because it would slow down websites, especially when you have a lot of listings, locations and categories.
Thanks
July 23, 2016 at 5:42 pm #232430I did that several times even after long wait in between – made no difference.
But it is working now.Thanks.
July 23, 2016 at 5:48 pm #232433You are welcome 🙂
July 26, 2016 at 3:43 pm #233706Problem still exists.
Added a few listing for another 2 cities.
Nothing shows up in the “Popular Post” Popular categories widget (shows total blank)
But you can see the entries below.
http://www.aroundealing.co.uk/location/hayes/Ran the tool in GeoDirectory >> Gd Tools >> Location category counts
Waited a day – nothing shows. At the mySQL backend I see double entries for the cities in table geodir_term_meta.
Hoping that deleting those containing old data (6,7,8) will fix the problem.
Instances 1,2,3 seems to contain the correct data.Is it safe to do so?
July 26, 2016 at 7:01 pm #233803Renamed the offending location_names to test and everything works.
So OK to delete dodgy entries.July 26, 2016 at 10:11 pm #233896Having a look at your location switcher, you could see you still had a “bad” location, being row 5 on your data screenshot.
I went to /wp-admin/admin.php?page=geodirectory&tab=managelocation_fields&subtab=geodir_location_manager and merged it, that should have cleaned up your database too.
See also https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/manage-location/#mergeJuly 27, 2016 at 12:51 pm #234093I only see 3 locations in “Manage Locations”, so nothing to merge.
I renamed the incorrect location (location_name) in the database and it seemed to work.
Now, it has created 3 more locations just like before. I have 3 entries for each location.Row 5 is still unchanged.
Renaming again makes the categories and counts appear correctly.July 27, 2016 at 9:49 pm #234410Yes, you see only 3 because “I merged it, that should have cleaned up your database too.”
You should not make changes in your database.
Now you will need to merge them again, please review the link I gave you earlier.
There are only 3 correct locations in your database now:Your locations need to be therefore always city > region > country, exactly like Google suggests when you add a listing from the frontend.
See https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/definitions/#location

July 31, 2016 at 2:39 pm #237582Yes, you see only 3 locations because “I merged it, that should have cleaned up your database too.”
No it did not.
Still only 3 locations in GeoDirectory – see attached image.Refreshing the category location counts:
(a) does not update the counts displayed in GeoDirectory
(b) it merely creates new entries in the database without region and country slugs
(c) renaming (location_name) in database will update the Geodirectory counts
(d) the process just repeats itselfHow do I get out of this loop?
July 31, 2016 at 10:57 pm #237766Can you give us your phpMyAdmin access details and FTP please.
Just describing the error for whoever will check for you:
If I understand you correctly, you are not adding any locations yourself in the database or anywhere else, but these incorrect locations are added by using the GD Tools > Location category count.August 1, 2016 at 1:33 pm #238207This reply has been marked as private.August 1, 2016 at 5:34 pm #238460I’ve flagged this for the developers.
